Former UFC fighter Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller arrested, caught naked in church

Former UFC and Strikeforce fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller was arrested Monday in Mission Viejo , Calif., after allegedly breaking into a church and vandalizing it with a fire extinguisher.  Police responding to the call reportedly found Miller sitting on a couch, naked but coherent.  He was taken into custody and charged with suspicion of burglary, and is undergoing a mental evaluation.

Miller found limited success in his time in the Octagon but was considered one of the sport's most colorful personalities.  He was also the host of MTV's popular reality show "Bully Beatdown."  Miller publicly retired from competition in May of this year after a lackluster performance at UFC 146 led to him to being fired.  Since then, he's tried his hand at stand-up comedy, and last week he engaged in an argument with UFC president Dana White over Twitter, where he said "Kill yourself @danawhite we are all begging you."

Dana White reverses course, gives title shot to fighter with best performance Saturday

UFC president Dana White made a shockingly bad decision during a conference call Monday with mixed martial arts reporters when he said that the winner of Saturday's UFC on Fox 4 main event between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Brandon Vera would get the next title shot.

Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who defends his belt on Sept. 1 against former Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson, has already crushed all four fighters who are competing on Saturday's card at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Ryan Bader meets ex-champion Lyoto Machida in the co-main event.

But it was Vera's so-so record that prompted outrage among media and fans. Vera enters Saturday's bout at the Staples Center 1-2 with a no contest in his last four fights. His best win at light heavyweight was over Krzysztof Soszynski.

When Jones was told on Twitter the Rua-Vera winner would get a title shot, he wrote, "Scratching my head." He wasn't alone in being perplexed by White's call.

So, late Monday, White changed his mind and opened the picture up. He said the fighter who looks the best on Saturday will get the title shot against the Jones-Henderson winner, giving Bader and Machida a chance, as well.

"When the fans speak, we listen," White said in a news release. "So whoever scores the best win, whoever gets the fans excited by going out there on Saturday and looking the most impressive, he will get the winner of Jones vs. Henderson. It is down to what these four guys do Saturday night in the Octagon. Winning isn't enough, they've got to win impressively. Any one of these four fighters can take things into their own hands and make a title shot happen."

Rua lost his title to Jones at UFC 128. Before the fight that day, Jones broke up a mugging, then went out and stopped Rua at 2:37 of the third in a stunningly one-sided performance.

Rua has gone 1-1 since, beating Forrest Griffin and losing to Henderson in what has been called the best fight in UFC history.

"I want the winner of Jones vs. Henderson," Rua said. "The fight I had with Henderson was a great fight, the fight of the year, and it was a very close fight. I am OK with that. It was a great fight. But the loss to Jones, I can't live with. I could have done so much better and I want to fight him again. First, though, I have to beat Brandon Vera and winning isn't good enough. I have to be very impressive, but that it what I have trained to do."

Vera took the change in stride. He has been upbeat and confident despite the naysayers who roared when he was put into a main event. White's announcement doesn't change much for him, because Vera has been saying all along he plans to win impressively.

If he does that, he'll make a very strong case for himself.

"Beating Shogun, and beating him the way I want, corrects all the mistakes I've made and wipes away all the bad performances," Vera said. "Beating Frank Mir is probably my best performance, but people don't realize that was nothing compared to what I do all the time in the gym. I'm going to show off what 'The Truth' really is on Fox."

Gabby Douglas Gets Olympics Love From Beyonce, Lil Wayne, More

Gold-medal-winning gymnast sets the Internet on fire after landmark victory in London.
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Cory Midgarden

<P>It's been an impressive run for Team U.S.A. over in London. As the <a href="/news/articles/1691023/olympics-carly-rae-jepsen-austin-mahone.jhtml">Summer Olympics</a> continue to captivate the world, event after event, it was a girl who has been nicknamed "The Flying Squirrel" who won not only the gold in the women's gymnastics all-around final competition on Thursday, but also the <i>hearts</i> of some of the biggest stars in entertainment.</P><P>What makes Gabby Douglas' win even more impressive is that the 16-year-old is the first African-American woman to take home the honor, a feat that has earned her major kudos from some major players in the music world and beyond. Kelly Rowland spoke to MTV News earlier this week, and she showed love to the soon-to-be gold medalist, proudly exclaiming, "Gymnastics! Gabby Douglas! She's awesome!"</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Kelly Rowland Is A Fan Of Gabby Douglas" id="vid:822664" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>But Kelly's not the only member of Destiny's Child enamored with the headline-making teen. Beyonce <a href="http://www.beyonce.com/news/gabby-douglas" target="_blank">blogged</a> about Douglas' win, sharing that she feels inspired by the teen's impressive Olympics run. "A huge congratulations to 16 year old Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas - WOW - what a thrill to watch you take this Gold! - enjoy this moment, its yours. Thank you for inspiring all of us! Love, B."</P><P>They're hardly the only A-listers showing the tiny teen adoration. Lil Wayne <a href="https://twitter.com/LilTunechi" target="_blank">tweeted</a>, "Glad i lived to see what Gabby Douglas did in the Olympics. Icon." His Young Money pal Nicki Minaj also sent her some viral love. Wagner Prado’s UFC debut ends with eye poke, no contest (PHOTO)

Phil Davis and Wagner Prado's night ended quickly. Less than two minutes into their bout during the preliminary card of UFC on Fox 4, Davis hit Prado with an eye poke. When the fight doctor checked on Prado's eye, which was bleeding and swollen, Prado said he was seeing double. Though Prado protested, the bout was stopped and called a no-contest.

The ending of the bout was a disappointing way for Prado's UFC bout to end. His record is now 8-0-1. For Davis, it was his first fight after losing in a title contender fight against Rashad Evans in January.

Valentino Rossi leaves Ducati, heads home to Yamaha

Valentino Rossi Ducati crash

After an undeniably unsuccessful two-year relationship with Ducati, motorcycle superstar Valentino Rossi has decided to take his talents back to Yamaha, the team he left at the end of the 2010 season for what he hoped would be greener pastures.

The deal signed by Rossi will see him wearing Yamaha blue for two years the 2013 and 2014 seasons and teaming up once again with Jorge Lorenzo, the 25-year-old Spanish rider who won the World Championship in 2010 and is currently doing the same for 2012. Though Lorenzo is undoubtedly an extremely gifted rider, Rossi is a fan and sponsor favorite and is sure to help Yamaha bring in some much-needed sponsorship dollars.

As to who will be filling Rossi’s vacated saddle at Ducati, rumor has it that the Italian team is most interested in Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso. If that’s the case, he will be paired up with American Nicky Hayden, who has been with Ducati since 2009. Dueling press releases, one from Ducati and the other from Yamaha, can be found below. Suffice it to say, the 2013 MotoGP season even without Casey Stoner is shaping up to be rather interesting.

Michael Jackson Immortal Tour: How They Uphold The Legacy

MTV News gets a behind-the-scenes look at the Cirque Du Soleil tribute to the King of Pop.
By Uptin Saiidi

<P><b>NEWARK</b> &#8212; Since its opening, <a href="/news/articles/1682347/michael-jackson-immortal-cirque.jhtml">Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour</a> by Cirque Du Soleil has honored the King of Pop through music, dance and acrobatics 117 times. Night after night, artists celebrate the life of the late Michael Jackson, but how do they take his iconic legacy and put it into a production? When the tour came to New York City this week, MTV News went behind the scenes to talk with the creative forces and performers to find out.</P><P>The artists (all 65 of them) had limited time to train and learn choreography -- an especially difficult feat when it's honoring MJ's signature moves. It was a kind of pressure that creative director Tara Young certainly learned to channel into a positive force.</P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:755805/cp~vid%3D755805%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A755805" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER></P><P>"I think it is a pressure for sure; something I share with the whole building here is that we have nothing to prove, only to share," Young told MTV News. "We have an opportunity to share what Michael would have wanted to share and the pressure is only there to achieve excellence."</P><P>For Felix Cane, a two-time world champion pole dancer who does a captivating performance to "Danger," it was all about using that pressure to help the audience to remember the pop icon. "You are sharing this passion with them, and this love of MJ. There's times in the show when some people and I, myself, might have shed a few tears."</P><P>That pressure never felt as great as when the Jackson family sat in the front row at a show in Montreal, an experience Young described as "inspiring." When asked what MJ would think if he were sitting there with them, Young smiled, "He would feel such a sense of pride of what he has given us to work with. It evokes emotions in people that they didn't even know were going to come out."</P><P>I think everyone feels inspired, which evokes a certain feeling of change," Young added. "You feel a sadness too because he is not with us anymore, and that is an emotion that is wonderful too actually ... just to honor him."</P><P>The tour will continue in North America through the summer, before heading to Europe this fall.</P><P><i>Have you seen Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour? What did you think? Shogun, BJ Penn, Joe Lauzon: The Morning News Roundup – 8.5.12

Man, what a show last night, huh?  After a string of events that had me questioning whether I should bother paying my cable bill, UFC on FOX 4 knocks it out of the park.  The UFC's resident karate man earned himself a shot at the light-heavyweight belt, Joe Lauzon did what Joe Lauzon does, and Mike Swick returned after a lengthy layoff to rack up a win via knockout.  All your morning news pertains to info gleaned from the post-fight presser, so let's get right to it.

  • UFC president Dana White didn't have nice things to say about Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at the post-fight press conference.  Well, he didn't exactly say anything that bad, but, you know, you kind of don't want your boss talking about you like this.

  • Rory MacDonald is injured and out of his UFC 152 fight with B.J. Penn.  Oh noes!

  • For putting on yet another exciting fight and finishing opponent Jamie Varner, UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon pocketed a cool 100 grand in bonus money last night.  For all you bean counters out there, that's $50,000 for Submission of the Night and $50,000 for Fight of the Night.  That's going to make for a pretty decent barbecue at Chez Lauzon in Massachusetts.

  • Mike Swick took home the Knockout of the Night bonus for sending DaMarques Johnson into La-La Land.  Nice comeback, no?

  • Brandon Vera's got nothing to be ashamed about.  He was the heavy underdog going into his fight with Shogun, and fought his heart out.

"The Voice" Announces Format Changes

In attempt to draw in more viewers, "The Voice" stars came together to announce format changes for the upcoming season of the NBC show during a press junket and cocktail reception in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (August 12).

Executive producer Mark Burnett hosted the event at his seaside home and managed to squeeze into a round of silly pictures with Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Milian and Cee Lo Green during the course of the day.

After noticing a ratings drop once the blind auditions wrapped up, NBC has decided to allow coaches to steal contestants from other coaches if they find themselves on the brink of being sent home.

However, just like the blind auditions, if more than one judge taps their buzzer to save the contestant, the singer will then get to decide whom it is that they want to work with.

The coaches will only be granted two steals, but a new two-week "knockout round" will quickly shrink their teams - leaving each with ten singers featured in the live shows kicking off in October.

The exciting changes will debut when the season premiers on NBC Monday, September 10th.

Joe Lauzon: A Few Words Before Battle

UFC on FOX 4 may have "big picture" relevance because of the light-heavyweight four-way scrum that will determine UFC champ Jon Jones' next opponent, but one shouldn't overlook some of the event's other gems — not the least of which is the match-up between Joe Lauzon and Jamie Varner.  Originally slated to face Terry Etim until Etim bowed out with an injury, Lauzon is primed and ready to explode all over Varner, showering the former WEC champ with submission attempt-shrapnel and fistic debris.  Cagewriter caught up with Lauzon on Thursday, a day that saw the Massachusetts native venturing away from the fighters' hotel and exploring other parts of Los Angeles.

First of all, how are you?  Are you healthy?

"I'm good.  There are always little injuries that add up a little bit, but I'm doing good."

You're an old timer now in terms of the fight week experience.  How is it out there?

"It's not too bad.  I have a bunch of guys that are here with me usually, and this week as always.  We like to get out of the hotel room - I used to just sit in the hotel room a lot and that would get a little stale.  So we try to keep busy.  Today we went down to Venice Beach and just kind of moved around a little bit.  I did some training today, nice and light, just to kind of break a sweat and keep things as normal as possible."

Did you prepare any differently knowing your opponent was going to be Jamie Varner?

"Not really.  It was kind of short notice, it was only a couple of weeks.  We switched from getting ready to fight Etim, who is really long and has kind of herky-jerky footwork and keeps you real far away with kicks, to Varner, who is a smoother boxer.  Not so much a kickboxer, but a straight-up boxer with good wrestling.  So we didn't have a ton of time to get super-detailed about stuff.  I was in good shape so we just reorganized our drills, and switched it up a little bit."

Is there any pressure to perform?

"Not more than usual.  I always put a lot of pressure on myself to try to have a spectacular fight and put people away.  It's big show, it's on FOX, but it's really not any different than other shows besides having a little bit of extra media.  It's still a fight.  If it was on the undercard of a Fight Night, it'd be the exact same thing."

Any thoughts on who you'd want to fight next?

"Nope.  I'm one-hundred percent Jamie Varner now, and I'm not even thinking about what's going on after."

Hypothetical: what if it was the PRIDE FC days and the Japanese offer you a wheelbarrow full of money to fight Jon Jones.  Do you take the fight?

"Absolutely.  If they're going to pay me to try to fight Jon Jones, I'm going to shoot a little single[-leg takedown], and if it doesn't go my way, I'm getting the hell out of there.  And then I'll take that wheelbarrow full of money.

Keep your tires age, Key Stoner at Laguna Seca victory

INbolnet -   Difficulties in the two previous series, Casey Stoner won the MotoGP success the United States, Sunday (29/7) local time. Fierce fight with Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa in the early races, Stoner finally able to cross the finish line first.

The Repsol Honda rider took the bold decision to use a rear tire (soft). In fact, other riders prefer a harder rear tire (hard). Apparently, the strategy proved successful Stoner. He managed to overtake Lorenzo right at Laguna Seca track straight on lap-22.

"Over the weekend, we are difficult to adapt to hard tires. So I chose to use the soft tires in racing sessions. I try to be more careful to keep a little traction," said Stoner.

During the race, Stoner believes he can win. The key is to maintain the durability of the tire until the end. "At the beginning of lap-lap, I tried to go more slowly to keep the old tires. That way, I could go back to fight in the middle of racing," he continued.

Australian rider was also admitted it is difficult to overtake Lorenzo and Pedrosa early in the race. This is because the rhythm of their racing better than him. "When I was in front, my time improved lap after lap. I am very happy for this victory. Thanks to my team who have worked hard," he concluded.

Stoner will retire at the end of the 2012 season, so far has collected four wins. He is ranked third in the drivers' standings with 173 points total.

Jon Fitch, Nate Diaz, UFC 150: The Morning News Roundup – 8.8.12

As the saying goes, it's all about the Benjamins — which, if my handy "Biggie Smalls Street Vernacular Dictionary — Volume 2" is accurate, means it's ultimately all about money.  Money is what fighters get when they take the biggest fights, sign the fattest contracts, and build up the most hype for whatever bouts they have scheduled for that week.  And hey, that's not a bad thing.  Fighting is a job, and the UFC is the top employer in the field, so why not make that wampum while you can?  Anyway, all this should clue you in on what today's morning news roundup is about: money.

  • UFC welterweight Jon Fitch really wants out of his rumored bout against Brazilian Erick Silva at UFC 153 — or at least, he would much rather have a rematch with Hawaiian fighting legend B.J. Penn.  Case in point: the disingenuous-seeming trash-talk Fitch is spewing.  I don't think Penn is a coward, most (if not all) of the world doesn't think Penn is a coward, and I seriously doubt Fitch truly thinks Penn is a coward.  But Fitch knows a fight with Penn could have a bigger bottom line, so here come the harsh words!

  • UFC lightweight contender Nate Diaz is holding a pen, and the tip of that pen is hovering over a new contract that UFC president Dana White has unfurled and flattened on the table.  Seems like a no-brainer that he sticks with the UFC, no?  I mean, where else is he going to go?  The Strikeforce lightweight champ is his buddy, and for him to go to Bellator, he'd have to sit on the shelf for a while.

  • The media call for UFC 150 was yesterday and MMAWeekly's got the audio.  Personally, media calls are all the same to me — the same spoon-fed hype and storylines, the same questions, the same faux-excitement.  They're just something that's done to drive media (and, subsequently, fan) interest, which presumably fuels pay-per-view sales.  The only time media calls are interesting is when PRIDE FC champ Fedor Emelianenko and his manager Vadim Finkelstein are on the line and we hear goats and water splashing and all sorts of weird stuff in the background (which actually happened once).

  • The folks at the UFC are helping erect a LGBTQ community center in Las Vegas, N.V., which is a pretty altruistic thing to do if you ask me.  MMAJunkie's got the quote from UFC executive Reed Harris:

"The UFC supports many worthwhile causes, and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center's goals of supporting human rights and offering programs for health and wellness are important causes that the entire UFC organization supports," Harris told MMAJunkie.com.  "We are pleased to be able to show support for an organization that offers health and wellness programs and seeks to better our community."

This little tidbit has nothing to do with money, but it's a good deed that deserves some recognition.

That's all for now.  Now, please, just leave me alone.

Luke Rockhold to Throw Out First Pitch at Oakland A’s Game

You know you've made it as an athlete when a Major League Baseball team asks you to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at one of their games.  Such is the case with Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold.  Two weeks ago, Rockhold was handling challenger Tim Kennedy in the cage; on Monday, he gets to drop by the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and put one across home plate (the A's are playing the Tampa Bay Rays, if that means anything to you).  Of course, this isn't the first time that an MMA fighter has been granted this honor.  Other examples include:

  • UFC light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones, who threw out the first pitch for a San Diego Padres game back in July, 2010.

  • Former UFC light-heavyweight champ Rashad Evans, who tossed one out for a Miami Marlins game in June of this year.

  • Former UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin, who did the honors for a Cincinnati Reds game.

  • Former UFC welterweight star Chris Lytle, who threw one home for a Los Angeles Dodgers game.

  • Former WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres, who did one up for the Chicago White Sox.

  • Strikeforce fighter K.J. Noons, who rocketed one home for a Houston Astros game.

  • UFC light-heavyweight fighter Brandon Vera, who did the same for a Padres game earlier this month.

You know what.  Now that I think about it, this whole throwing-out-the-ceremonial-first-pitch thing isn't that special after all.  As you were.

Jim Genia tweets here and wrote this book.  Believe that!

Nam Phan and Cole Miller Wage War: UFC on FOX 4 Preliminary Card Rundown

It was a mixed bag of results for the bouts on the UFC on FOX 4 preliminary card, which aired live on Fuel TV prior to the main card broadcast on FOX, and in terms of action, the six bouts delivered.

  • In the first fight of the evening, flyweight scrapper John Moraga utilized his well-credentialed wrestling chops to prevent jiu-jitsu specialist Ulysses "Useless" Gomez from bringing the fight to the ground, and once Moraga found his groove on the feet, he lit Gomez up with a storm of short punches and elbows against the cage.  Gomez crumbled under the onslaught, giving Moraga the win via knockout at 3:46 of the first round.

  • In featherweight action, dueling judoka Manvel Gamburyan and Michihiro Omigawa took turns blasting each other in the striking exchanges — Gamburyan dinging the Japanese fighter with a flying knee, a well-timed high-kick, and various punches, Omigawa tagging the Armenian with a torrent of jabs and crosses.  But the TUF 5 runner-up found success with his takedowns, and though Omigawa was usually back up in an instant, points were scored.  When time ran out, the judges gave Gamburyan the well-deserved unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
  • Heavyweight Brit Oli Thompson may have had the advantage in terms of muscle, but fellow UK product Phil De Fries seemed unfazed.  Rocking Thompson in the first with a decent portion of fist-salad, De Fries established early on just how dangerous he could be, and when he began mixing in an aggressive ground assault, for Thompson things went from bad to worse.  The ending sequence came when De Fries got his foe down, secured back-control and applied a face crank; Thompson tapped out at 4:16 of Round Two.

  • Featherweight Josh Grispi needed a win in his return bout against jiu-jitsu expert Rani Yahya, but he made the mistake of playing the Brazilian's game and it cost him.  From takedown to guard pass to North/South choke submission, it was all Yahya, and Grispi was forced to tap out at 3:15 of the first round.
  • The light-heavyweight contest between wrestler Phil Davis and Brazilian Muay Thai specialist Wagner Prado ended in the most unsatisfying way possible.  In one of the first full-fledged striking exchanges on the feet, Davis accidentally put his fingers in Prado's eye.  Prado was instantly in pain, and the blood around his eye was enough for the doctor to call it.  The bout was rendered a "no decision" at 1:28 of Round One.
  • The "main event" of the preliminary card, which saw ultra-tough featherweights Cole Miller and Nam Phan throw down, did not disappoint in terms of pace and violence.  Eschewing their vast collective jiu-jitsu experience for the opportunity to stand and box, Miller and Phan battered each other relentlessly for all three rounds.  In the first, Phan quickly overcame Miller's sizeable reach advantage to repeatedly land a vicious left hook to the chin. But Miller made adjustments by the time Round Two rolled around, and his straight rights began knocking Phan's head back over and over again.  The final frame saw no abatement in the dogfight, and when time ran out, the judges gave the split decision to Phan (29-28, 29-28, 28-29).

Countdown to UFC 150: Shields vs. Herman

The "Countdown to UFC 150" begins as UFC cameras take look at a middleweight matchup between Jake Shields and Ed Herman. The bout will mark Shields's return to the middleweight division, a place where he enjoyed great success at, after spending his entire UFC career at welterweight going 2-2. Looking to spoil his return to the division is Colorado's own Ed Herman. Herman is 3-0 since returning from a catastrophic knee injury at UFC 102.

UFC 150 Preview: The Undercard Breakdown

Yes, the rumors are true.  There is a UFC this weekend — UFC 150 to be exact.  And though it seems as if a ton of promotional "umph" went into making everyone aware that there was a UFC on FOX last Saturday, this Saturday's offering is flying under the radar like a Stealth Blackhawk through Pakistani airspace.  Which is a shame, as UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson and former champ Frankie Edgar are destined to have another prolonged war, and fan-favorites Don Cerrone, Melvin Guillard and Jake Shields will be around to shock and awe.  Oh well.  Anyway, here's a breakdown of the undercard that will air on FX and Facebook, which is my effort towards making y'all aware.  You can thank me later.

  • Dennis Bermudez vs. Tommy Hayden — On the fourteenth season of "The Ultimate Fighter", Bermudez was a human Monster truck, driving over and crushing everyone on his way to the finals.  Diego Brandao armbarred him at the finale, making Bermudez the official TUF 14 number two man, but that loss hasn't done much to slow the Long Island, N.Y.-based fighter down in terms of using his giant tires (i.e., wrestling, durability and punishing top game) to his advantage, and at UFC on FOX 3 he beat Pablo Garza all across the driveway.  UFC 150 opponent Hayden will fare no better than Garza.  Lacking the jiu-jitsu ability that Brandao used to stave off a complete and total beatdown, Hayden is simply going to get flattened, and in a week's time we'll find him crumpled in a junkyard somewhere, a sad testament to the fact that Volkswagen Beetles should never take on Monster trucks.

  • Jared Hamman vs. Michael Kuiper — California native Hamman is a scrappy stand-up fighter unafraid to eat punches.  Since he pretty much only wins every other fight he has in the Octagon, and his last outing at UFC 140 had him falling to Costa Philippou, then the pattern has Hamman emerging victorious against Dutch judoka Kuiper.  Kuiper didn't look impressive in his UFC debut against Rafael Natal; watch for him to try to clinch with Hamman and get TKO'd for his efforts.

  • Ken Stone vs. Erik Perez — Wrestler-turned-MMAer Stone got thrown into the deep end of the pool in his first two trips into the Zuffa-owned cage, and as a result he got put to sleep by top dogs Eddie Wineland and Scott Jorgensen.  But I guess the UFC matchmaking department took pity on him, because his next two opponents weren't among the world's elite, and now Stone has balanced out those earlier losses with a pair of wins.  Opponent Perez won in his UFC debut, tapping out a TUFer in impressive fashion, but he's far from being a Wineland or Jorgensen, so this bout should be pretty competitive.  I have Stone taking the decision after three rounds of jockeying for dominance against the cage.

  • Dustin Pague vs. Chico Camus — TUF 14 exponent Pague is tall, lanky, effective on the ground, and so religious that in a recent post-fight screening he tested positive for Jesus.  Which is cool.  I mean, whatever works, right?  Since joining the UFC proper, Pague has lost to John Albert and the aforementioned Ken Stone, but put away Jared Papazian.  Camus is a decent puncher, but this is his Octagon debut, so factor that into the Wisconsin-based fighter's chances.  I certainly am, which is why I have Pague pounding him out on the ground for the TKO win.

  • Nik Lentz vs. Eiji Mitsuoka — Japanese stalwart Mitsuoka has been in the fight game so long, he can call old timers like Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz "whippersnappers".  Okay, not really, but I did see Mitsuoka fight at a King of the Cage out in California back in 2001, and man, that was a long time ago.  Earlier this year he gave Takanori Gomi a run for his money before getting smashed, but don't expect him to do much against ace "wall and stall" expert Lentz, who had an exciting fight against Evan Dunham back in January but whose UFC career has otherwise been an exercise in "Ugh, why did I watch that?"  Lentz is taking the uneventful decision, and there's nothing Mitsuoka — or any of us — can do about it.
