It's no guessing game. Smart fighters treat nutrition as a science, carefully regulating their diet before fights. GSP's main trainer Firas Zahabi talked about what the UFC welterweight champ does to ensure a healthy weight cut.
Now he's on a protein and vegetable diet. Right now his exercise is significantly cut, but he's going to shed water. It's only temporary weight loss. It's not real weight loss. You're not dropping fat. (The final weight-cut) lasts about six days . . . By Friday he'll have six or seven pounds left and we'll put him in the sauna. I don't recommend this to anybody, even professional athletes. This is somebody who's very seasoned.
After GSP steps on the scale on Friday afternoon and weighs in at 170 lbs., his team will give him a carbohydrate-laden recovery drink. Then, he will eat normally and drink water to rehydrate. He'll weigh around 192 lbs. by the time he steps in the Octagon with Shields on Saturday night for UFC 129.
Some fighters start their eating plan months in advance. Mike Dolce, a nutritionist and former contestant on "The Ultimate Fighter," works with fighters to ensure a complete eating plan that helps fighters cut weight without the sauna. Like Zahabi, Dolce does not recommend sauna use.
"The guys who use the sauna to cut ten or twelve pounds, you're forcing your body to expel so much water so quickly that it's not discerning what water is safe to cut from the system and what water isn't. It's just taking it from wherever, and it becomes dangerous. That's where you see guys who don't recover from their weight cut. They look sluggish in their fight, and they defeat the whole purpose of all the training and the conditioning from their fight camp."
A recent study on wrestlers found that severe weight cuts could hurt their mental abilities in a match. Without using proper methods, fighters can find themselves in bad shape for their bouts.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu may be General Motors' best attempt yet at creating a truly global midsize sedan. GM says the Malibu will be sold in 100 countries spanning six continents, and one of those markets will be in South Korea, a country where the Malibu has never been offered before.
The General claims that interest in the 'Bu has grown in Korea, with 30,000 Internet club fan members in a market where the sedan has never before been offered. The excitement comes after GM unveiled the Malibu at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show, where the fresh four-door was named "Most Eye-Catching Car."
Korean car buyers tend to be a very nationalistic bunch, but that won't be a problem for the Malibu, since GM will build the sedan in Bupyeong, Korea this fall. In fact, the Bupyeong plant will be the first facility to build the new sedan. The move to sell the Malibu in Korea is part of GM's plan to replace the Daewoo make with the Chevrolet brand. Jones-Evans soap opera done for now: Davis in for injured ‘Bones’
Rashad Evans can't catch a break. The former UFC light heavyweight champ turned to the only option he thought he had by agreeing to fight teammate Jon Jones for the title. Now Jones is out with an injury and the UFC has slotted in Phil Davis.
The Canadian Press' Neil Davidson first reported the change.
The verbal sparring on the Internet, through blog and radio interviews, was getting pretty intense between Jones and Evans. Evans called Jones childish at one point. Jones later responded by suggesting he dominated the veteran at times during training camps.
For Evans, this is a huge blow. He loses another immediate shot at the title and gets a tough bout in Davis. The former Penn State has only fought six times with the promotion and a win over Evans� could launch him into the title chase. Evans has everything to lose in this fight rumored to be going down at UFC 133 in Philadelphia.
Evans also has to deal with the awkward scenario of possibly rejoining his team in Albuquerque. He decided to leave Jackson's Submission Fighting and allow Jones to work with the team there. Now that it's Davis on the docket, will he return?
John Morgan from MMAjunkie reports that Jones is still recovering from a right hand ligament injury he suffered during his win over Rua and that he faces a "long recovery."

Future Chryslers to include Charger Super Bee, 40+ mpg Fiat 500

Chrysler is fresh off the introduction of 16 new or refreshed models, but Team Pentastar isn't out of breath just yet. According to Inside Line, CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters and analysts that there will be more changes throughout 2011.
For starters, the Dodge Charger will reportedly add a Super Bee variant. The familiar badge will likely be a mostly cosmetic upgrade, though Chrysler hasn't yet announced any specifics. Meanwhile, the Jeep Wrangler will finally - finally - receive a new engine. The ancient 3.8-liter six will be replaced by the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which boasts 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque in most applications. The far more powerful 3.6-liter will also come with a reported 10 percent increase in fuel economy, though the Wrangler won't get the eight-speed auto transmission that should arrive from Getrag later in the year.
One of the Chrysler brands will also receive a rebadged version of the Fiat 500 before the end of 2011. The efficient little runt, which could be badged as a Dodge, must hit at least 40 miles per gallon to satisfy a requirement necessary for Fiat to receive another five percent ownership of Chrysler. If and when that happens, Fiat will own a 51 percent majority of the American automaker.
Team Pentastar is also looking to add more diesel models to its lineup. The oil burners will reportedly make up 14 percent of the automaker's model mix by 2014. We know that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting Chrysler's 3.0-liter CRD V6 in the coming years, and we're crossing our fingers for an oil-burning Wrangler, as well.

Chuckie Will Debut Michael Jackson Remix In Miami
Official 'Hollywood Tonight' remix coming to Miami Music Week.

Leaving the South by Southwest festival, Lavo New York and Las Vegas' Marquee in his wake, house DJ Chuckie has his sights set on the week ahead. With Miami Music Week now upon us, Chuckie plans to seize the opportunity to debut new material. Fans will be tickled to know the Dutch producer has tracks in the can with Kelly Rowland and T-Pain, but when MTV News caught up with him Friday in New York, Chuckie shared the achievement of which he's most proud.
"I did a Michael Jackson remix, which was really scary — to touch Michael Jackson vocals," Chuckie said. "I did this remix for this track 'Hollywood Tonight.' I couldn't say it for a minute: The label called me, and they said, 'You can't say nothing about this. It's kind of a secret project.' It's gonna come out anytime now."
"Hollywood Tonight" was originally produced by Teddy Riley for Jackson's posthumous Michael album, and Chuckie's mix of the song will be the sole official remix of the track.
"I will play it Miami," Chuckie revealed. "I told them this is the best week to launch the remix. So it feels really good. I'm the only one remixing that Michael Jackson track, and they are considering it a single. For me, especially, it's an honor to remix the King of Pop because he died on my birthday."
So, will the mix be a thundering Chuckie Dutch house banger or will it have a melodic progressive house feel, like his Marquee remix of Diddy-Dirty Money's "I Hate That You Love Me"? Well, according to the "Let the Bass Kick" producer, fans will be getting a healthy dose of both.
"I had to bring in the raucous," Chuckie confessed. "Yeah, I did the Chuckie flavor, but then again, I wanted to make it really musical, so I went progressive (house) on it."
Chuckie will be performing twice at Miami Music Week: at the Cr2 Records Party at Wall Lounge on Wednesday, and then headlining "No Sugar Added" at Nikki Beach on Friday.

Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off its latest supercar, the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Gone are the gullwing doors and fixed roof; in their place are traditional entry-ports and a folding cloth softtop. The car is still undergoing testing, but these shots reveal far more of the car than we've previously seen in various spy photos. A more polished version will be revealed to the world at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
Before the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster hits the show circuit, it needs to spend some more time with Mercedes' engineers. The MB team has put a lot of work into this drop-top SLS, and ditching the fixed roof has required more than simply taking a sawzall to the bodywork.
Though the aluminum spaceframe was originally developed with both a coupe and convertible in mind, Benz engineers added beefier side-skirts to the roadster. This allows for improvements in both crash performance and overall rigidity. Further aiding in the quest for increased strength, a cross-member that supports the dashboard was given additional bracing at both the window frame and transmission tunnel. Despite this increased rigidity, the bodyshell of the SLS AMG Roadster weighs just five pounds more than the bodyshell of the SLS AMG Coupe.
Like its hardtop sibling, the roadster is capable of hitting an electronically limited top speed of 197 miles per hour. The convertible top is constructed from three layers of fabric, magnesium, steel and aluminum. It's lightweight, strong and can be opened or closed at speeds up to 31 miles per hour.

Three Stars from UFC 129: Undercard edition
No. 1 star -- Pablo Garza: What's the best way to start off the biggest UFC event in the promotion's history? With a flying triangle submission. Garza's first-round choke of Yves Jabouin stood out in a night of stand-out performances, and earned him a $129,000 bonus. In his last fight, a win over with a flying knee over Fredson Paixao, Garza made $8,000. Not a bad bonus for less than five minutes work.
No. 2 star -- Rory McDonald: Dealing with a Diaz brother is never fun. Nate, like his brother Strikeforce champ Nick, couples a nasty jiu-jitsu game with unending trash talk. But the 21-year-old McDonald ignored that, and used suplexes and strikes to stop Diaz in a unanimous decision.
No. 3 star -- John Makdessi: Not to be outdone by Garza's fast start to the fights, Makdessi pleased the Canadian crowd with a spinning backfist KO, sending Kyle Watson to the floor in the third round with a hard left to the chin. Unfortunately, Lyoto Machida's KO of Randy Couture robbed Makdessi of the bonus, but not of the respect earned from the highlight reel knockout.
Honorable mention -- Ivan Menjivar: Speaking of amazing finishes that were also worthy of a bonus, Menjivar only needed a minute and a half to finish off Charlie Valencia with a short elbow that busted up Valencia's nose.

Sources: Fedor-Hendo Fight Could Be Announced Within 24-72 Hours

A July 30 matchup pitting MMA legends Dan Henderson and Fedor Emelianenko is close to final and may be announced within 24-72 hours, sources with knowledge of situation told MMA Fighting.On Tuesday, SBNation.com reported that the fight is finalized, but though it's close, sources tell MMA Fighting that a few outstanding details remain, and bout agreements have yet to be signed.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker declined comment on the situation.

White believes in Couture, thinks Machida’s style is hurting him
If you questioned why 47-year-old Randy Couture is getting a shot at Lyoto Machida, look no further than the head honcho at UFC. Dana White has long argued that Couture is still a top 10 fighter in the UFC's light heavyweight division.
During this Yahoo! feature, Fight Day, White also says Machida's counterstriking style may be turning into a negative (1:05 mark).
"The style that got him all those wins, all these years is kind of backfiring on him now. I don't think people have figured it out, but he lays back a little too much," White said. "I think he needs to be more aggressive and come forward. And he's definitely gonna have to be that way with Couture. Cause Couture's gonna be right in his face the whole fight."
Couture's recent wins came against boxer James Toney and 45-year-old Mark Coleman. Before that, he struggled to get by Brandon Vera, who was cut and then brought back by the UFC.
The USA Today/Bloody Elbow MMA poll has Couture at No. 16 in the world and No. 12 in the UFC. White says the rankings are [expletive]. Does he really stand a chance against a top five 205er in his prime? The oddsmakers say no. Machida is a massive minus-350 favorite.

Ramsey Nijem Makes His Case for Jake Shields, Talks TUF Episode 5

Our weekly interview with The Ultimate Fighter cast member Ramsey Nijem includes not only a look at the fight that took place on this week's show -- Clay Harvison defeating Mick Bowman -- but also the fight that everyone in the MMA world is discussing this week, Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields at UFC 129.
Although he knows he's in the minority, Nijem is picking Shields. That's motivated in part by Nijem's status as one of Shields' training partners to help him get ready for the St. Pierre fight, but it's not just talk: Nijem says he put down some money on Shields.
Nijem also comments on this week's Ultimate Fighter episode. The full interview is below.

Ke$ha Says Her Own Britney-Style All-Girl Tour Will Be All Guys
'Blow' singer is psyched for the summer leg of her Get $leazy Tour with Spank Rock, LMFAO.

There's certainly something to be said for girl power. Ke$ha felt it when she hit the road with Rihanna last year, when the two apparently engaged in a variety of high jinks, including some alleged backstage pillow fights.
But when MTV News caught up with the glitter-soaked party girl on Wednesday just hours before her show at New York's Roseland Ballroom and asked her who she might bring along if she were able to put together a Britney Spears-style all-girl tour, Ke$ha didn't hesitate to name her posse.
Sitting cross-legged on a couch in black tights, black cowboy boots, black leather gloves and sleeveless black rocker T-shirt, Ke$ha told us that her all-girl lineup would actually be, well, all guys. "All-girl fantasy tour?" she said, staring up at the ceiling for a moment and contemplating the idea. "I mean, I play nice with chicks. I actually put together my personal fantasy tour and I just announced the second leg of my Get $leazy Tour and that's gonna be: me and LMFAO and Spank Rock."
And while the upcoming outing will be light on the estrogen — much like the first leg of her $leazy tour, on which she is sharing the stage with party-rap dude Beardo — Ke$ha insisted that it still will offer what her fans have come to expect from her shows. "It's not an all-girls tour, but it's gonna be f---ing sleazy," she maintained.
That macho vibe has been on display during to the winding-down first leg of the $leazy fest, which Ke$ha has nicknamed the "I Can Do Whatever We Want Tour." So, what kind of perks come with being a first-time headliner? "Blasting glitter violently at people, even if they don't want it," said Ke$ha. "It's like they don't even have a choice. It is a little volatile, but I do it anyways. I feel like people know me for my glitter and I don't want to disappoint."

Evan Dunham will have to wait a little longer to snap his two-fight losing streak.The lightweight was forced to pull out of his UFC 132 fight against George Sotiropoulos due to an undisclosed injury, MMA Junkie reported on Tuesday. UFC.com later reported that Rafael dos Anjos had agreed to replace Dunham and will face the Australian Sotiropoulos on the July 2 card.
"Really frustrated that I had to pull out," Dunham tweeted. "I was really looking forward to this fight. I will be back in there as soon as I am heeled (sic) up."

Legendary London icon Ace Cafe heads to the States

If you have even a passing interest in the world of two-wheeled transportation, you likely already know all about Ace Cafe. The place started as a roadside diner, but quickly evolved into a haven for young London bike nuts after World War II. As a result, the name is now synonymous with the café racer phenomenon. Mark Wilsmore took the reins at Ace in 1993 and completely restored the structure in 2001. Now, the little diner serves as a hub for thousands of riders from around the world every day.Today, Ace Cafe is planning to open outlets here in The Land Of The Free. A total of ten locations are set to spring up across the country soon, and to mark the occasion, Dime City Cycles is throwing a grand-opening celebration in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, May 14.
We typically recoil from the commercialization of something as unique and special as the Ace Cafe, but if anyone can do this and do it right, it's Wilsmore. The man knows a thing or two about putting together a custom bikers, which leads us to believe the new Aces may actually be a place real riders want to spend time instead of a glorified t-shirt stand. V6 offerings make up 50% of retail Ford F-150 sales in April

Ford sold 45,435 F-150s in April, up 11 percent versus the top-selling truck's April 2010 totals. That's a solid month for truck sales with soaring fuel prices, but the finer sales details show that truck buyers are very mindful of prices at the pump.
Ford announced in its monthly sales totals release that V6-equipped F-150s accounted for 50 percent of retail sales, up considerably from the 40 percent mix in March. The 3.7-liter V6 offers truck buyers 305 horsepower and 23 miles per gallon on the highway, so it's not surprising that some owners are opting for the smaller mill.
But the more popular V6 offering is the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which boasts 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Ford says 75 percent of those V6 sales are of the EcoBoost variety, which makes sense, given the fact that the boosted mill accounted for 36 percent of all F-150 sales in April. The EcoBoost F-150 gets up to 22 mpg on the highway, which is still as good as or better than the other pickup trucks on the market.

Canada loves Couture so much, it made him into a truck
Yahoo! Sports' newest blog Eh Game spotted one particular downer to Randy Couture's retirement. It'll mean an end to his relationship with the Canadian National Lacrosse League team the Edmonton Rush.
But don't freak out Rush fans you'll still have a piece of Couture in 2011.
Eh Game's Andrew McKay says Rush owner Bruce Urban doesn't want to let go of Couture, so at the Capital Monster Truck Show in July at Rexall Place, Couture will be a truck. That is cool.
It's also a big positive for MMA. We've been searching for a good story involving a monster truck. The last time a big rig and fighter were mentioned in the same sentence came after Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's binge on energy drink.
Couture and his chain of gyms, Xtreme Couture, have worked together with the Rush since 2009. During his recent fights, Couture wore the Rush logo on his shorts while the lacrosse players wore the gym's logo on their uniforms. Couture, with that Rush logo in place, is expected to close out his career tomorrow night at UFC 129 against Lyoto Machida.

Video analysis: Iole sets the record straight on MMA vs. boxing salaries
With each passing day, MMA is getting closer to the interest shown towards mainstream sports. With that comes more transparency and a deeper look at everything that concerns fighters including their salaries. It was week reported last week by ESPN the Magazine that Brock Lesnar was the highest earner in 2010 at $5.3 million. If that's the true figure, it seemed a bit short of Manny Pacquiao's $32 million. Those are the top dogs, but what does that mean for boxers and MMA stars in the two-through-30 range?
This money talk in MMA even prompted HDNet's Inside MMA to get into the issue a few weeks ago about Nick Diaz. The suggestion was made that Diaz needed to leave MMA to get the money he deserves. Kenny Rice said Diaz might make as much in one boxing match as he's made in 16 of his 32 MMA fights combined (1:08 mark).
That was odd assertion considering Diaz just made $325,000 in his last two fights. Is that fair for a guy who's roughly the 15th biggest star in MMA?
Yahoo!'s MMA/boxing expert Kevin Iole checked in with us to explain how there's no middle class in boxing and that it's highly unlikely Diaz would fetch anything close to 175k for a boxing match.

‘Mayhem’ Miller takes his talents to the UFC
He plans to fight in the UFC's middleweight division:
"I will beat the brakes off most of the guys in the middleweight divisions in the UFC," he said. "I guaran-damn-tee it."
Miller hasn't fought since a DREAM win over the legendary Kazushi Sakuraba in September 2010. His last Strikeforce bout was a year ago in Nashville. He won over Tim Stout, then jumped in the cage after Jake Shields' win, sparking a brawl resulted in suspensions. He has fought in the UFC before: one loss to now-welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre.
This is the first big signing of a former Strikeforce fighter since Zuffa, the UFC's parent company, bought Strikeforce. At the time of the purchase, UFC president Dana White said that business would continue as usual and that the UFC and Strikeforce would continue to compete for fighters. Miller's contract had expired, and he hadn't had any Strikeforce fights in more than a year.
