Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Suit Vs. AEG Can Proceed, Judge Rules
Katherine Jackson and family are pursuing a claim against concert promoter.

When he was alive, Michael Jackson was forever embroiled in a series of complex and expensive-sounding lawsuits. But even in death, the late King of Pop is the subject of major legal action. None could potentially be bigger than the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the pop icon's mother, Katherine Jackson, against concert promotion giant AEG Live.
Reuters reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled on Wednesday that the civil lawsuit can go forward. It will proceed in parallel with the criminal case against Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's June 2009 death from an overdose of the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol. Murray is the only person charged in Jackson's death and he is currently awaiting trial in that matter.
Katherine Jackson's lawsuit — filed in September on behalf of her and Jackson's three young children — accuses AEG of being responsible for the medical decisions made by Murray, whose salary was paid by the touring company behind Jackson's attempted "This Is It" comeback shows in London. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos denied a motion on Wednesday by AEG to dismiss Katherine Jackson's suit, but warned Jackson's attorneys that they would need to show evidence of "fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy" in order to win the case.
The judge has already said she doubts they can prove the latter charge, because the suit does not detail any agreement between Murray and AEG to break the law in providing medical care to Jackson.
"If the object was to get him to rehearsals, I don't see that as a wrongful or illegal act," the judge said. A lawyer for AEG told the judge that the company could not have predicted beforehand that Murray's medical decisions would result in Jackson's death. Court papers also show that AEG "did not choose to hire Murray" and had only participated in negotiations to bring him on as an independent contractor. Michael, who had previously been treated by Murray in Las Vegas, was reportedly the one who suggested the cardiologist serve as his personal, on-call physician during the "This Is It" rehearsals and shows.
Katherine Jackson's attorney recently dropped choreographer Kenny Ortega from the lawsuit based on new information they received about his actions. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 22, just six days before Murray is due back in court for his trial. Jackson's father, Joseph, has twice attempted to file a wrongful death suit in the matter, though his is focused on Murray and the Las Vegas pharmacy that supplied the propofol, not AEG Live.

Canada loves Couture so much, it made him into a truck
Yahoo! Sports' newest blog Eh Game spotted one particular downer to Randy Couture's retirement. It'll mean an end to his relationship with the Canadian National Lacrosse League team the Edmonton Rush.
But don't freak out Rush fans you'll still have a piece of Couture in 2011.
Eh Game's Andrew McKay says Rush owner Bruce Urban doesn't want to let go of Couture, so at the Capital Monster Truck Show in July at Rexall Place, Couture will be a truck. That is cool.
It's also a big positive for MMA. We've been searching for a good story involving a monster truck. The last time a big rig and fighter were mentioned in the same sentence came after Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's binge on energy drink.
Couture and his chain of gyms, Xtreme Couture, have worked together with the Rush since 2009. During his recent fights, Couture wore the Rush logo on his shorts while the lacrosse players wore the gym's logo on their uniforms. Couture, with that Rush logo in place, is expected to close out his career tomorrow night at UFC 129 against Lyoto Machida.

What you need to know from this week on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’
Deep into season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter," Team Lesnar is coping with a loss and suspicious of one of their own. Who will Brock yell at? Who has the disgusting injury of the week? Will the fighters tell ghost stories around the campfire? Read on for spoilers and a fight recap.
Overreaction of the week: After Charlie Rader's loss, Lesnar rips his team. Len Bentley is not happy with having to sit through this, since he "fought his heart out and is not going to get punked." That's fine, Len. You keep it real. Just remember that sometimes, keepin' it real can go wrong. It seems that Len still has some abandonment issues, complaining that Brock wasn't even THERE for his fight. Lesnar just wants one of his three remaining fighters to give it their all.
"I want somebody to wow me," Lesnar says. "Who is it gonna be?"
Not getting it of the week: Back at the house, Bentley says that he doesn't fight to "wow" Lesnar. Well, that's short-sighted, considering he lost his first fight and a wildcard berth is up for grabs. If Lesnar isn't wowed, he won't likely fight for that fighter's second chance.
Fight pick of the week: Mick Bowman (Team dos Santos) vs. Clay Harvison (Lesnar)
Overstepping ... again of the week: Lew Polley is pissing off dos Santos again, because his only job is to teach wrestling, but Lew tries to teach every discipline. This isn't going to end well.
Paranoia of the week: Harvison is positive that Chris Cope is working as a double agent for Team dos Santos. He doesn't like the way Cope stares at him during mitt practice. Harvison says that Cope's double-agency is "ground for an [expletive]-whooping." He's dangerous. He's been known to break the law. He wears his sunglasses backwards. He's ... Clay Harvison.
Someone writes, "Chris Cope Double Agent," into the sand in the zen room -- seriously -- and Cope confronts it like an adult. He tells the team, over S'mores, that he isn't a double agent. His team believes him ... until they get back to their rooms and call him a compulsive liar. They say Team dos Santos wrote it. Cope says Tony Ferguson wrote it. They yell. Sigh.
Memorial of the week: Harvison has an elaborate tattoo on his torso. It's in honor of his brother, as the ink was injected with his brother's ashes.
J'Accuse! Of the week: Mick is the culprit behind the sand writings. He did it "for a bit of fun," and the over-sensitive Lesnarians took it seriously.
Fight of the week: Bowman (dos Santos) vs. Harvison (Lesnar)
Round 1: Mick shoots in for a takedown but misses badly and ends up on his back. Harvison lands strikes from above, avoiding Bowman's flurry of upkicks. Harvison lets Bowman stand up, and uses the opportunity to work Bowman into the cage. Bowman throws knees and punches to the body, then gets the better of striking for the remaining 40 seconds of the round.
Round 2: Harvison starts strong, pushing Bowman back with kicks and knees until they are clinched against the cage again. Bowman pushes Harvison off of him, and starts throwing low kicks. He pushes forward, landing strikes and kicks. He takes a few shots to the legs, too, but doesn't seem bothered. As dos Santos yells, "GO!" Bowman shoots for a takedown, but ends up getting pushed against the catch for the final seconds of the round.
To Dana White's surprise, the fight goes to a decision after two round. Harvison wins 20-18 on all three judges' cards.
Lesnar is happy, because he was wowed, and his entertainment is all that matters. The bad news is that Harvison's sustained a compound -- read: bone sticking out -- fracture of his finger. White says, "He's out. It's sticking out? He's out."

By rules, he missed weight for a title fight. You have to be at the designated weight or below. There is no one-pound allowance for title fights.
Yahoo! Sports' lead MMA writer Kevin Iole checked in from Toronto. He was outraged with the way the Ontario Commission and the official, Rocky, handled the situation.
If Aldo storms to a victory, it probably won't matter. But because of Rocky's error, the door is slightly open for some potential postfight controversy.

There's certainly something to be said for girl power. Ke$ha felt it when she hit the road with Rihanna last year, when the two apparently engaged in a variety of high jinks, including some alleged backstage pillow fights.
But when MTV News caught up with the glitter-soaked party girl on Wednesday just hours before her show at New York's Roseland Ballroom and asked her who she might bring along if she were able to put together a Britney Spears-style all-girl tour, Ke$ha didn't hesitate to name her posse.
Sitting cross-legged on a couch in black tights, black cowboy boots, black leather gloves and sleeveless black rocker T-shirt, Ke$ha told us that her all-girl lineup would actually be, well, all guys. "All-girl fantasy tour?" she said, staring up at the ceiling for a moment and contemplating the idea. "I mean, I play nice with chicks. I actually put together my personal fantasy tour and I just announced the second leg of my Get $leazy Tour and that's gonna be: me and LMFAO and Spank Rock."
And while the upcoming outing will be light on the estrogen — much like the first leg of her $leazy tour, on which she is sharing the stage with party-rap dude Beardo — Ke$ha insisted that it still will offer what her fans have come to expect from her shows. "It's not an all-girls tour, but it's gonna be f---ing sleazy," she maintained.
That macho vibe has been on display during to the winding-down first leg of the $leazy fest, which Ke$ha has nicknamed the "I Can Do Whatever We Want Tour." So, what kind of perks come with being a first-time headliner? "Blasting glitter violently at people, even if they don't want it," said Ke$ha. "It's like they don't even have a choice. It is a little volatile, but I do it anyways. I feel like people know me for my glitter and I don't want to disappoint."

Exor to spin Ferrari off into a separate company?

Just a couple of weeks ago, few of us had ever heard of a company called Exor. After all, why should we? It's a private family investment company. But the family in question is the Agnellis, and their company holds the keys to the entire Fiat empire (and by extension, much of Chrysler as well). Then news broke that Exor was part of a consortium looking into buying the commercial rights to Formula One.
While that development plays itself out both in the media and behind closed doors, Exor is in the news once again, but for an entirely different reason. Reports from Italy indicate that Exor is considering spinning Ferrari off into a separate entity. The move would likely follow a similar path taken when they spun off Fiat Industrial, granting current Fiat shareholders (the Agnelli/Elkann family included) the same proportional stake in a separate Ferrari, which would in turn place the Prancing Horse marque outside the scope of any potential merger between Fiat and Chrysler, while also making it easier to sell off part or all of Ferrari.
Of course, this isn't the first time the Elkann brothers have been linked to a more direct role at Maranello. While John Elkann chairs both the Fiat group and Exor, his eccentric brother Lapo has been rumored to replace Luca di Montezemolo as chairman of Ferrari should the latter opt to run against Silvio Berlusconi for the Italian premiership.

UFC 129 asks who is better, Canada or U.S.?
UFC 129 is more than a record-breaking MMA event that will pack 55,000 into the Rogers Centre in Toronto to see two championship belts decided. It's also a face-off between American and Canadian fighters to decide which country is better. Cagewriter breaks it down for you. Which North American country does it better?
GSP vs. Shields: Everything is going for GSP. He's fighting in front of a home crowd, he's at the height of his hype and he's considered invincible, which is exactly why I don't think he'll win. If Shields gets it to the ground, GSP is in trouble. Advantage: Shields and the U.S.
Signature food -- poutine vs. pizza: Poutine, french fries top with cheese curds and brown gravy, sounds amazing. However, pizza -- a food with an ancestor in Italy but that is singularly American -- is much better. It is customizable, yummy when hot and cold, can be made to look like Yoda and everyone loves it. Advantage: U.S.
Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson: BenHen needs to erase the memory of being on the wrong end of the Anthony Pettis highlight reel. That incentive is enough to get the former WEC champ the win. Advantage: Henderson and the U.S.
National anthems -- "O Canada" vs. "The Star-Spangled Banner": The U.S. national anthem, when sung well, can tear the house down, but it's not easy for an average person to sing.� That's not true of "O Canada." During the Vancouver Olympics, Canadians showed how easy it was to sing their anthem. Advantage: Canada
National animal: For America, it's the bald eagle, a strong, proud bird that can pick off prey from a mile away. Canada's, which can seen on the header of the new Yahoo! Sports Blog, The Eh Game, is the beaver. Advantage: the U.S.
Nate Diaz vs. Rory McDonald: Does Canada have a Stockton equivalent? Nah The baddest fighters come from Cali, not Quebec. Advantage: U.S.
Other sports: Well, Canada did just win a figure skating world championship and the Canucks knocked my Blackhawks out of the playoffs, and they won the gold medal in both men's and women's hockey at the Vancouver Olympics. Canadians also excel at curling. Outside of that, America rules. Football, baseball, basketball -- I'll take Derrick Rose over Steve Nash -- we're better. We'll give you hockey, Canada. We'll take the rest. Advantage: U.S.
Other fights: On the other UFC 129 Canada vs. U.S. fights, my picks are Makdessi, Patrick, Jabouin for Canada and Ellenberger, Valencia, Jensen for the U.S.

Women in racing are few and far between. Sure, a smattering of notable names comes to mind - like Danica Patrick, Sabine Schmitz and Susie Stoddart - but in this male-dominated sport, they're the exception. The FIA is taking steps to fix that, however.
Two of the regulatory body's organs - the Women & Motor Sport Commission and the Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK-FIA) - teamed up to award the most outstanding young female talent a helping hand. They held a shootout among nine candidates, all below the age of 16, who were tested for their physical and mental capabilities over the course of two days in Geneva before pitting them against each other in a track competition.At the end of the process, the jury - consisting of commission president Michèle Mouton (a former WRC runner-up); two-time WTCC champ Yvan Muller and his karting-champion sister Cathy; and CIK-FIA executive secretary Vincent Caro - selected Lucile Cypriano, 15, of France. As a result, she'll receive a fully funded ride in the 2011 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, where she'll face off against 50 contenders, each representing a different country, on her climb up the motorsport ladder. My First Fight: Jens Pulver
Looking back now, Jens Pulver can't say exactly what he was expecting that day. A test, maybe. A way to find out something about himself that he'd only guessed at before.The name of the event - The Bas Rutten Invitational 2 - sounded official enough. If the Dutch Pancrase fighter was affiliated with it, and if they'd already done it once without anything terrible happening, how bad could it be?
But since this is small-time MMA in 1999, we're not talking about a fancy event at a civic center. We're talking a couple hundred people packed into a Muay Thai gym in Littleton, Colorado, a town where just four days earlier two heavily armed teenagers had walked into Columbine High School and killed 12 classmates and one teacher before taking their own lives.

Jason Brilz waited 11 months to return to the Octagon after losing a razor-close split decision in his last bout. This time he lasted just 20 seconds before Vladimir Matyushenko knocked him out at UFC 129.
Brilz had gained a great deal of attention from UFC fans for the way he handled that tough decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in that bout in May of 2009, but this time around he simply had no answer for Matyushenko, who came out like a buzz saw from the start.
Matyushenko landed a right hand to Brilz's chin, followed by a left hand that sent Brilz backward to the canvas, and then three more right hands on the ground before Brilz went out.

Wind down the track with the World Superbike
‘Event Title Sponsor’ of the first stage will be Italian Wind, the third mobile operator in Italy and one of the few European operators to offer integrated mobile, fixed and Internet. In line with the new slogan “Closer,” Wind chooses to combine the best of motion derived from the championship series, thus expressing its proximity to the hearts of fans, taking in the Superbike Village and entertaining audiences with promotions and trade Italian in the three stages of this season. The first of three events, then take the name of “Wind Italian Round – Monza 2011″.
In Superbike, Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri in pursuit of Carlos Checa
Despite not having won at Assen – he twice finished second – the World Champion Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing Team Alitalia) was reported in second place behind Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati), winner of race 2 in Holland. The Spaniard, who won four of six games played so far, is now faced with a circuit card that does not seem favorable to his Ducati. The final victory of the twin-cylinder Ducati dates only to 2009, when Michel Fabrizio won a race.
The 1098 R does not seem to be favored at the Monza circuit, due to the presence of long straights, on which the four-cylinder could be an advantage. The amazing form of Checa and Ducati’s excellent performance this season, however, may overturn the prediction.
Max Biaggi, meanwhile, on the basis of the doublet won here last season, welcomes the arrival of the Monza race. Lombard on the circuit, the World Champion in office last year reached a peak speed of 330.2 km / h.
Very close to the headquarters of the dall’Autodromo Team Yamaha, which has always competed on the track of positive tests … home. In the last four editions of the race in Monza, the R1 has won four times, three with Noriyuki Haga and one with Ben Spies. These results give confidence to Marco Melandri, who wants to improve their result at Assen, where he earned fourth place in race 1. The Ravenna is determined not to be further distanced from Checa.

The BMW, however, is still searching for the absolute first statement and Leon Haslam is trying with great determination. Unfortunately, so far the only English on the podium at Phillip Island, but last year they took a second and fourth place, riding a Suzuki.
Finally, Leon Camier, who this year scored in the positive test at Monza in 2010 took two good placings.
At Monza, will try to return from injury James Toseland (second last year), while Michel Fabrizio (Team Suzuki Alstare), to report on the first, relies on past achievements of its GSX-R 1000 – with Corser in 2005, with Neukirchner in 2008 and with Haslam in race two podium in 2010.
Among the bikes will be followed closely by the three riders of the Kawasaki Racing Team, Chris Vermeulen, Joan Lascorz and Tom Sykes, as well as the most important of the private teams, Jakub Smrz, Sylvain Guintoli (Ducati Racing Effenbert-Liberty) and Noriyuki Haga (Aprilia Racing Team PATA), who was also eager to join the ranks of winners.
Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italy), will focus on improving his ranking, as well as Roberto Rolfo (Team Pedercini Kawasaki). At Monza, we will also Fabrizio Lai (Echo Sport Honda Racing Company), as a wild card.

A little further away Robbin Harms (Harms Benjani Racing Team Honda) and David Salom (Kawasaki Motocard.com). Monza could be a chance of redemption this year that Honda has not yet won. In fact, in 2011, the Yamaha has won all three games played so far, while the House as a winner in the Supersport has had to settle for podiums.
Massimo Roccoli (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) hopes to continue at Monza in the positive progression of his last races and improve the seventh position in the Championship. The victory of Lorenzo Zanetti (Italy Superstock Team BMW Motorrad) CIV in the race last Sunday has given new confidence to the German House in view of the second round of the FIM Superstock Cup. Last year, BMW is clearly imposed by Ayrton Badovini and this year will try to repeat the result with the same Zanetti and Sylvain Barrier, third at Assen. With a S 1000 RR will also wild card Michael Magnoni (Baru Racing Team), second in 2010 and the flag race on Sunday.

Ramsey Nijem Calls Lew Polley an 'Arrogant Jerk,' Criticizes GSP

The first five episodes of Season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter featured fights that were generally not very compelling. Episode 6 changed things. With two exciting fights that both ended in the first round, Episode 6 provided the best fights of the season so far.
In this week's interview with Ultimate Fighter cast member Ramsey Nijem, we got his thoughts on being in the gym to see the two fights live. We also got Nijem's opinion of his coach, Junior dos Santos, kicking Lew Polley off the team, and on the UFC 129 main event, which saw Nijem's training partner Jake Shields lose to Georges St. Pierre.

MacDonald dominates Diaz at UFC 129
Rory MacDonald pleased the 55,000 fans in the Rogers Centre on Saturday night with a dominating win over Nate Diaz. MacDonald, a native of British Columbia, won on all three judges crowds: 30-26, 30-27, 30-26.
The fight started much more slowly than it ended. MacDonald used leg kicks throughout the first round while Diaz mostly used jabs. MacDonald tried for a takedown, but Diaz reversed him, broke from MacDonald's hold and stood up. Diaz tried for a single-leg takedown late in the round, but couldn't get it. Diaz seemed frustrated by the round, as he taunted MacDonald as the horn to end the round sounded.
As the crowd in Toronto chanted, "[Expletive] you, Diaz," MacDonald started the second with a takedown. Diaz got back to his feet, but MacDonald punished him with short strikes as Diaz stood up. MacDonald then followed it up with another takedown. Again, they returned to their feet, and this time the fight went against the cage. Diaz tried for a takedown, but MacDonald stopped him. In the final seconds of the round, MacDonald worked in a few more knees and punches before the time ran out.
MacDonald made his mark in the third round when Diaz made the tactical error of trying for another takedown. MacDonald stepped out of the takedown attempt, then followed Diaz to the ground. He took his back, and used it as an opportunity to slam Diaz to the ground twice in a row. MacDonald landed several more strikes when Diaz was on the ground. Diaz came close to standing up and then MacDonald supplexed him again. Diaz tried to come back in the last seconds, but it was too late. MacDonald had made his mark, all over Diaz's face. The Canadian crowd exploded, cheering on their native son's win.
Diaz was hoping to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, who earlier this month convincingly defended the Strikeforce welterweight belt, but it was not meant to be. MacDonald, who recently started training at Georges St-Pierre's training home of Tri-Star Gym in Montreal, didn't relent during the fight. Now, the 21-year-old MacDonald's record moves to 11-1, while Diaz is 13-7.

Polley questions his firing from “The Ultimate Fighter”
Polley had a different take on the firing. He believes he was fired to free up room for another coach to come in.
If you watch the discussion between Junior and me, you will notice I asked, "Did I do everything you asked of me?" And Junior said "Yes." His said his reasoning was, "It was confusing and the vibe was bad." But he did not offer much in terms of reasons ... Back in the hotel room, I called my manager, and he told me he would reach out to Ed and the producers to see what if anything could be done. But Junior and his guys were telling me they needed my room and that I had to go.
Luiz Dorea, the coach who advised dos Santos to fire Polley, is Junior's longtime boxing coach and mentor. It's not surprising that dos Santos would follow his advice to relieve the tension. The room issue is surprising, because coaches come and go on TUF all the time. Also, they're staying in Las Vegas, the center of the MMA world. Was there really nowhere else for Polley to stay? Or did dos Santos want to show that he was the head coach?
Team dos Santos members are divided. Ramsey Nijem was happy to see Polley go.
I was glad -- that was a long time coming. I didn't have too many personal run-ins with Lew but he's just kind of an arrogant jerk. He thinks his way is the best way and I also thought he didn't give us the best advice for fighting. Lew said something about how Junior didn't like him because he's not Brazilian but that's not true. Junior is one of the nicest guys ever. None of us are Brazilian and he treated all of us fine because we're not jerks.
While Shamar Bailey, Nijem's roommate, said that he thought Polley was a good coach.
Lew was always making sure we were ready for our fights, mentally and physically. He always told us what we needed to work on to get better instead of just saying, "good job". He was a real dude through and through. Everybody is gonna act a little different while they get used to cameras being everywhere, including Ramsey. But to say Lew was just there for the cameras and disregard everything be did for us is pretty errant in my humble opinion.
The editing involved in pulling together a reality show means that viewers will never have the true story between dos Santos and Polley, but as head coach and the star of the show, dos Santos gets to do as he pleases in coaching. Polley may not like it, but in the process, he has picked up some notoriety. That's not too bad for a regional fighter with a 10-4 record.

Few could have seen it coming: The team that was started by a multiple world champion, then taken over by a British automaker only to be bought out by a beverage company would win the world championship. And win it in spectacular style, too. But surely it was a fluke when Red Bull rose to the top of the heap last season. A fluke like when Brawn GP seized the championship the year before. A fluke the likes of which we hadn't seen - amid decades of Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Benetton/Renault alternating for the trophy - since Matra and Tyrrell scored the titles in '69 and '71 respectively - at the hands of the same Jackie Stewart who, in 1997, started the team now known as Red Bull. That kind of fluke, right? They couldn't possibly keep it up...could they?
Well, if Red Bull was to fall off the podium this season like Brawn did after its title and acquisition by Mercedes-Benz, we certainly wouldn't know it from the first three rounds so far. Defending world champion Sebastian Vettel took pole position at all three opening rounds, turning them into two wins upset only by fellow champion Lewis Hamilton taking the top step in Shanghai. Would Vettel and Red Bull take their place at the top again this weekend in Istanbul? Would Hamilton be poised to upset his Germanic rivals once again? Or would it be someone else's chance this time? The House that Gates Built has teamed up with the Volkswagen Group to develop the next generation of automotive information and entertainment delivery strategies.A firm called e.solutions supplies Volkswagen with its infotainment software. Microsoft has signed an agreement to license its Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT) technology to e.solutions, which allows the software developer to squeeze more information into smaller spaces. Now you can apply online to fight in the UFC
Like many companies, the UFC has turned to an online hiring system. Job applicants are asked to submit their resumes online for jobs in marketing, operations and fighting. Wait, really?
Yep. You can apply to be a fighter through its online system. Fill out its application with your details, your manager's details, your weight class and your online fighting profile -- through sites like Sherdog or Wikipedia -- and verify that you have at least five professional fights, and voila! You're in its system. Fighters will be evaluated and hired on a rolling basis.
If you don't want to be a fighter, you can still have fun commenting on the people who are putting their dreams on the line. Yes, every fighter-wannabe's profile is viewable, and even has a comment board.
Though this seems like a publicity stunt for the UFC -- and it may be -- it could still also find some talent that may have slipped through the cracks. They can also see if a fighter is popular enough to sell tickets before they ever offer a contract.

UFC 129 media cat fight: Toronto Sun writer not happy with dot-com MMA media
If media folks could simply duke it out, wouldn't this be a better world? Instead we use our pens, keyboards and mouths to rip and critique each other. Why not, right? We do it to the athletes, so why not crush each other?
The Toronto Sun threw a few haymakers at anonymous MMA media members by calling out the behavior of some of those covering yesterday's UFC 129 press conference:
As for the media, well, the UFC certainly attracts an interesting group of "journalists". Sure, the so-called "mainstream" media was out in force, but so too were a ton of those Dot.com media outlets. You know the ones ... they interview Georges St. Pierre and then ask for his autograph.
Steve Buffery wasn't a huge fan of the delivery from some in attendance.
The mixed martial arts media do not hide the fact that they're huge fans of the sport they cover. One guy actually took the microphone and proceeded to tell Dana White how great his organization is and how intelligent the fighters all are. I can't remember if he actually asked a question.
One media lady stood by the podium taking pictures of pictures. Of course, my good buddy, Toronto Sun photographer Jack (The Scamp) Boland, then took pictures of her taking pictures.
Buffery has a point. Some of us in the MMA media are a bit too fanboy-ish at times.
That said, we could also bore you death with horror stories about members of his "mainstream" media.
I'll never forget the media center at Super Bowl 32 in San Diego. The pizza machine went on the fritz and several media members waiting in line for their FREE food, had a conniption. The pizza girl actually fled the scene crying. Nice job fellas. That was the beginning of the end for the freeloading media expecting lavish spreads at sporting event. Now many venues charge the media for pregame meals.
Don't let the mainstream media dudes fool you. There are just as many unprofessional, butt-kissing hacks running around TV, newspapers and radio stations as they are in the MMA media. Just look for the self-aggrandizing media folks on Twitter who like to update you on their latest healthy meal or even better, their� travel woes. That's a good start.

Brilz had gained a great deal of attention from UFC fans for the way he handled that tough decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in that bout in May of 2009, but this time around he simply had no answer for Matyushenko, who came out like a buzz saw from the start.
Matyushenko landed a right hand to Brilz's chin, followed by a left hand that sent Brilz backward to the canvas, and then three more right hands on the ground before Brilz went out.
