MMA referee knocks out corner man at regional fight show (VIDEO)

Why just have one fight at a local MMA promotion when you can watch the referee knock out a cornerman after the fight ends? Seriously. The referee/cornerman altercation gets heated at the one-minute mark.

There's a lot of wrong in that video, like the referee continuing to pursue the cornerman when the best referees across sports try to diffuse heated situations, the cornerman confronting the ref in the first place, and the poor cornerman falling like a tree.

Can you imagine referee Herb Dean knocking out a coach? Or Greg Jackson, the respected coach to UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones going after a ref? Exactly. If you find yourself cornering or reffing in an MMA bout, remember: W.W.G.J.D, or, what would Greg Jackson do?

Thanks, Bloody Elbow.

‘Shogun’ Rua would rather lose his job than fight phenom Glover Teixeira

Glover Teixeira has a well-earned reputation of an extremely dangerous fighter. He hasn't lost since 2005, and 11 of his 19 wins come by knockout. The reputation is so well-known that former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua told UFC president Dana White he'd rather lose his job than fight Teixeira.

After Thiago Silva scrapped his fight with Rua because of an injury, the UFC needed a new opponent for Shogun.

"He said that he'd actually rather be cut than have to fight him," White said during a UFC on FX 3 post-fight interview with Ariel Helwani. "Dude, nobody wants to fight this guy. We're trying to match the guy up with somebody, but he didn't mind fighting Brandon Vera, so he's fighting Brandon Vera. I don't want to sound like I'm disrespecting Shogun, because I'm not. I'm just telling the truth. It's verbatim what his people said when we talked to them. You know me. I tell it like it is. If you don't want that out in public, then don't say it to me on the phone, because I'm going to say what was said. Shogun's a warrior. The guy's fought everybody from PRIDE to the UFC. His last fight with Dan Henderson was awesome. It is what it is."

Now, Rua will fight Vera, whose last win was over Eliot Marshall. Before that, Vera loss a bout to Silva which was later turned into a no-contest because of a positive drug test for Silva. The Rua-Verabout will main event the UFC's next show on Fox.

Teixeira made his UFC debut at UFC 146 with an overpowering submission of Kyle Kingsbury. Who do you want to see him fight next? Speak your mind in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Beyonce Serenades Michelle Obama, Cements Comeback In Atlantic City

Queen B ascends her throne during the second in a four-night run of Memorial Day weekend shows.
By Rebecca Thomas

<P><b>ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey</b> &#8212; The "year of 4" continues.</P><P>Four months after giving birth to her first child &#8212; an arrival announced last August <a href="/news/articles/1669858/beyonce-vma-performance.jhtml">at the MTV VMAs</a> &#8212; <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;</a> returned to the stage Saturday night, on the second of a four-night run in this East Coast resort city. And it was a spectacular fitting her rising icon status.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyonce Gets Back To Business, Kicks Off Summer!" id="vid:785342" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>So what kinds of clues get 20somethings calling you "the greatest performer" of your generation? Well, it's in the details. For one, Revel, the sparkling, 6.3-million-square-foot beachfront destination that played host to <a href="/news/articles/1685877/beyonce-memorial-day-atlantic-city-concert.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;'s comeback</a>, devoted a channel on its guest-room flat-screen TVs solely to B-related content: no weather broadcasts, nary a "Housewife" and no commercial breaks; just videos, all-star performances and more, all through Memorial Day weekend. It was evident in the distance traveled, too, with fans telling MTV News they'd made cross-country pilgrimages, while still others came from as far as Tokyo and South Africa to hail Queen B.</P><P>But those are just the hints, peripheral proof. The presence of First Lady Michelle Obama at last night's concert left little doubt that the little girl from Houston, who joined a girl group and then struck out on her own, had seen another benchmark in her relatively young career. After <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/04/13/michelle-obama-thanks-beyonce-for-letter">exchanging letters</a> in recent months, with each calling the other a role model for girls, Obama turned up in a sleeveless green sheath waving like royalty from a balcony in Ovation Hall.</P><P>A little after 10 p.m., as the pounding opening march from "End of Time" kicked in, Beyonc&#233; appeared in silhouette; the sequins were hard to make out but the wind-blown mane was <i>impossible</i> to miss. Finally, B, stunning in hot pink Stuart Weitzman heels and a beaded body suit, appeared on the massive stage backed by her dancers.</P><P>"Atlantic City, snap your fingers," she commanded, launching into "Love on Top." Without missing a step of the New Edition-inspired choreography, B powered through the song's modulations in an extended vocal showcase. Then she took an exaggerated pause, as if to catch her breath (or to bask in the adulation?), before belting out a final coda. The 30-year-old's comeback was officially under way.</P><P>Pushing through hits from her debut solo effort, including "Naughty Boy" and the dancehall-infused "Baby Boy," and <i>Sasha Fierce</i> smashes like "Diva," B defied all post-partum laws as she kept pace with Frank Gatson's acrobatic dance style. ("Y'all don't know how hard I had to work. I had to lose 60 pounds!" she laughed to the crowd later. "They had me eating lettuce.") And just as songs like "Single Ladies" and "Run the World (Girls)" are meant to serve as empowerment manuals for women, it became clear last night that Beyonc&#233;'s choreography is meant to do the same: a series of sensual quickstep moves that revolve around the hips and legs. It showed in the Fosse-style swing and formations on songs like "Get Me Bodied," and the strut-heavy footwork on "Freakum Dress."</P><P>"Sasha Fierce disappeared, but y'all bringing her back," B joked midway through the euphoric two-hour set.</P><P>For one of our favorite numbers, "Party," the <i>4</i> singer donned full-on showgirl regalia in a heady rendition that saw confetti coming from the roof and dice-shaped beach balls being tossed through the crowd as dancers in large feathered headdresses magically turned up in the aisles.</P><P>There were ballads, of course, at Ovation Hall, the more memorable among them a tribute to Whitney Houston and a cover of Lauryn Hill's classic "Ex Factor." And if Beyonc&#233; reminded us of what we've lost in those gut-wrenching covers &#8212; she proved, too, that she's more than ready to carry the weight on her shoulders.</P><P><i>Share your reviews of Beyonc&#233;'s Revel shows in the comments!</i></p>

Honda CRF450X Dakar

Honda has announced that it will take part in the 2013 Dakar Rally next January with a special motorcycle works team. It's been 23 years since Honda last took part in the rally, back when it took place in Europe and Africa and sailed under the Paris-Dakar banner. Between 1981 and 1989, Honda walked away with the gold five times, but hasn't so much as touched a grain of sand on the new course that spans from Peru through Chile and into Argentina. Team HRC is out to change that with its new four-rider team.

Helder Rodrigues, Felipe Zanol, Sam Sunderland and Javier Pizzolito will each command a new prototype race bike based loosely on the CRF450X. Honda has also whipped up a ration of kit parts designed to be bolted to a factory CRF450X should any privateer team feel like following in the Japanese bike maker's tracks. Check out the quick press release below for more information.

Clay Guida says tenacity will be difference in key fight with Gray Maynard

The similarities between Clay Guida and Gray Maynard are striking: Each are elite wrestlers whose striking has come a long way. Each is coming off a loss to a lightweight champion, Guida to Benson Henderson and Maynard to Frankie Edgar. And each man believes he's destined to regain the belt.

The one difference, though, that Guida believes will carry him to victory over Maynard in their five-round lightweight fight Friday in Atlantic City, N.J., is his tenacity.

"Without a doubt, I think that's going to be in my favor," Guida told Cagewriter. "I've been in fights where I've been down and come back. I am never, ever, going to quit or concede in a fight and I think that's a major advantage for me."

Guida's movement and tenacity are two of his trademarks, but he's also at least as well known for his wild, flowing hairstyle. Maynard's new coaches at the American Kickboxing Academy, but not Maynard himself, complained to the New Jersey commission about it.

Guida agreed to put his hair in cornrows to end any controversy before it began and laughed it off as a non-issue.

"I'm not sure what they were trying to do by complaining about that, but whatever it was, it didn't work," Guida said. "I'm here to fight and not talk about my hair."

Guida knows a win over Maynard, who had a draw and a knockout loss to Edgar in back-to-back title fights last year, will go a long way toward getting him his coveted first title shot.

The UFC has promised Nate Diaz a championship shot against the winner of the rematch between Henderson and Edgar at UFC 150, but Guida told Sherdog Radio he believes an impressive win over Maynard could force the UFC brass to rethink its plans.

If I go out there and beat the brakes off of him and really put it on him, I think the UFC is going to have a hard time denying us. I know Nate Diaz is right up there. Yeah, he won three in a row, but look, Gray won six or seven in a row. He hadn't lost for how many years? … [And] I went on a decent little run there. I won four over a couple of tough guys, former world champs, [Takanori] Gomi in Pride and [Anthony] Pettis in the WEC, and I lost a very, very close fight to Ben Henderson. So it's one of those, it all depends on the way of victory.

The five-round fight figures to work to Guida's advantage. One of the reasons for his popularity is his ability to fight at a frenetic pace pretty much all of the time. The pace often slows in the latter stages of a long fight, but Guida insists that will never happen to him.

He said he's better conditioned now, at 30 years old, than he's ever been.

"Five rounds is tailor-made for me," he said. "When I'm done with three rounds, really, I'm just getting loose and ready to go. I go through a grind every day to get to where I am and you haven't seen anything from me in terms of pace and stamina. The longer this fight goes, people are going to be shocked at the way I can go.

"It's a mindset. I refuse to be tired and I have always vowed to work harder than my opponents. I put myself in the worst possible situations in training and I go and go and go. It makes the fight seem easy by comparison."

Toni Elias Makes Another Stellar Comeback for Top Ten Finish

Toni Elias Assen 2012

Mapfre Aspar rider places in top ten despite starting low down the order. Teammate Nico Terol near to the points after also making positive comeback

The Moto2 race at Assen followed on from the thrilling Moto3 opener, and provided plenty of intrigue for the title picture. With Thomas Luthi taken out by Ratthapark Wilairot just three corners into the race, and Pol Espargaró crashing whilst leading on the second lap, the contest was set up for two riders at the front. Andrea Iannone took over the lead and extended his advantage to just under three seconds. Scott Redding and Marc Márquez fought amongst themselves behind him, and eventually it was the latter who caught up with the Italian.  Márquez managed to take the win on the final lap, ahead of Iannone in a race which was undertaken at a pace even faster than in yesterday’s qualifying session.

Just two weeks have passed since the British Grand Prix, and there were shades of deja vu from the Silverstone round at Assen for the MAPFRE Aspar Team riders. Toni Elías started the race from 21st on the grid, but was determined enough to push early on and had moved up to thirteenth by the end of lap one. He then stuck with the leading group until they broke away slightly, nevertheless claiming ninth place in a fantastic performance. He thus equaled his best result of the year so far, from Jerez.

Teammate Nico Terol also made a comeback through the field, having experienced difficulties setting up his bike earlier in the week. He struggled to find pace at the beginning of the race, but eventually was able to use his skills to get closer to the points –finishing in seventeenth.

9th Toni Elías: “We have to be happy with today, because we started from low down on the grid –like at Silverstone- and we were able to make our way up the order. The pace of the race was a lot quicker than in practice. Obviously ninth place is not where we want to be finishing, but at least we can leave Assen feeling good about our performance. I think that we did a good job today. I am not completely happy with the setup of my bike, but we are working very hard to find solutions that give us stability and allow us to up our pace. We have to keep working against the clock, just as we have been up to now, as we have a great opportunity next weekend to finetune our bike configuration.”
17th Nico Terol: “The weekend was rather a tough one, because neither yesterday, nor on day one, was I able to feel comfortable. As soon as the race started I felt better than in practice, so I decided to just enjoy myself. I have to thank my team, because we have managed to reduce the chatter that we had been having with the front end. My mechanics have managed to give me a much more comfortable machine today. Starting from far back means that the opening laps are difficult, so you have to be agile in order to not lose the riders in front. I lost touch at the start, but was able to come back through. In the end I placed 17th and I am satisfied with how I felt. I keep gaining experience every day and have a good foundation upon which to build.”

Tito Ortiz talks about UFC 148, the Hall of Fame and the next chapter

It's going to be an eventful summer for Tito Ortiz, a man who was recognized as one of the most important fighters in the growth of the UFC when the promotion decided to induct him into their Hall of Fame. He will fight Forrest Griffin on July 7 at UFC 148, making it the third time the pair will meet. After that bout, Ortiz plans to retire.

"I've done everything," Ortiz told Cagewriter. "My body has taken the toll. (back injury, acl replacement) My body just can't train, and training is hard on your body, so I wanted to go out on my own terms."

But before retirement, he will fight Griffin. The pair first faced off at UFC 59. It was a close fight won by Ortiz and was considered one of the best fights of 2006. Griffin took the rematch by split decision at UFC 106. Though they've fought each other for six rounds, Ortiz said he still is studying Griffin because it's part of the job.

"Gotta do your homework. I've got to do as much homework as I possibly can. I see mistakes that he does," Ortiz said. "It doesn't matter that it's my last fight. I'm still pushing my hardest."

He was touched by the UFC deciding to make him a Hall-of-Famer.

"It means all the hard work that I did means something. I've worked really hard in this business for 15 years. I've gotten to succeed, to be very successful, at mixed martial arts in the UFC."

Because he has been in the fight game for so long, he has not had as much time to spend with his family as he would like. He has three sons, and is happy the next stage in his life will involve plenty of time with them.

"First thing is being a full-time father. Being with my kids every single day. I'm starting the second chapter of my life, and it's truly about family."

Follow Tito Ortiz on Twitter for more as he prepares for UFC 148.

Don’t expect to see Alistair Overeem fight on the UFC’s New Year’s Eve card

Suspended UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem tweeted on Monday he'll be back to fight in December.

I'll be fighting again in December and mark my words, I'll be back.. to get the belt, sooner rather later.

Per the terms of his suspension for having elevated testosterone levels, he could technically be available by the card the UFC traditionally holds near New Year's Eve. However, the UFC isn't known to book a fight with a still-suspended fighter with hopes that he would get a license for their fight.

Will they change things up to get Overeem on the big end-of-the-year card? Don't bet on it. UFC chairman Lorenzo Fertitta said he won't book Overeem until he has a license.

"That's speculation," Fertitta said in a text to ESPN.com. "It's in the NSAC's hands. (The UFC) can't be presumptuous."

Overeem isn't eligible to apply for a license until Dec. 27, and the card is expected to be on Dec. 29. They would have to take a huge risk to put him on such an important event when he wasn't able to get a license before. He burned them for UFC 146 and made the UFC scramble to completely reconfigure the card. It makes sense they don't want to go through it again.

Ute drift

A New Zealand man, for reasons only clear to himself, decides to attempt a Starsky & Hutch drift around a corner in a ute that can only kindly be described as vintage. With that opening, you're no doubt expecting the obligatory "of course it all goes wrong and he crashes."

And that, indeed, is what happens.

What he does next, though, is something straight out of a ridiculous Grand Theft Auto videogame scenario, and the payoff is terrific. See for yourselves in the video below.

Luke Rockhold and Tim Kennedy are great at fighting, but not rulebreaking (VIDEO)

Luke Rockhold will get a chance to defend the Strikeforce middleweight belt against Tim Kennedy on July 14 in Portland. The two have been pushing for a match-up, but not because they hate each other. They just wanted a good fight.

In fact, these two can't even be bad when they are being pushed into it by Strikeforce commentator Frank Shamrock.

One quibble, Frank. Rockhold and Kennedy's painting was not of Mother Teresa. It's Our Lady of Guadalupe, the image of the Virgin Mary who appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico in the 1600s.

Though they're both nice guys, they still match up for an interesting bout. Who will win? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Podium joy for Dovizioso in Assen

Andrea Dovizioso Assen 2012

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team celebrated another fantastic podium finish in the historic Dutch TT this afternoon after Andrea Dovizioso stormed to third position in front of over 90,000 fans.

The Italian claimed his second podium in the last three races after prevailing at the end of a thrilling fight with American rider Ben Spies on the final lap.

A terrific start from the third row of the grid instantly put Dovizioso into podium contention as he grabbed fourth behind Spies, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa. Dovizioso then piled intense pressure on Spies and he moved into third place on lap eight.

Dovizioso pushed his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 to the limit but he was unable to streak away from a determined Spies, who seized third back on lap 12. Dovizioso then shadowed Spies for the remainder of the race, waiting until the final lap to pounce with a clinical overtake that secured his second third position of the 2012 World Championship campaign.

Cal Crutchlow produced another heroic performance to finish fifth in the 26-lap encounter, the British rider defying the pain from a broken left ankle he suffered in a practice crash at Silverstone to fight his way through from last position.

The 26-year-old was fortunate to miss a first corner inc ident involving Jorge Lorenzo and Alvaro Bautista, but in taking evasive action to avoid the Spanish duo's collision, he was forced to run off track.

Crutchlow ended the first lap down in 12th but he demonstrated his fighting spirit to catch a battle involving Valentino Rossi, Hector Barbera and Nicky Hayden for fifth after just five laps. Crutchlow's stunning early charge saw him set the third fastest lap of the race on lap four and he had swept into fifth place by lap 16.

Crutchlow's sixth top five finish of the season ensured he remains in fourth place in the World Championship rankings and again he demonstrated the pace that would have certainly put him in the hunt for his maiden MotoGP rostrum had it not been for his unfortunate early off-track excursion.

Andrea Dovizioso 3rd – 76 points:

“Scoring a podium for us feels like a victory and today is another great day for me and the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team. This podium is great because I have never had a very good feeling at this track but with the Yamaha YZR-M1 I felt much more comfortable. I was only seventh on the grid but I knew all weekend my race pace was very fast and I always felt a podium was a realistic goal. I got a good start and it was a beautiful battle with Spies for the whole race. It was a really strong battle and the pace was very high and when I passed Spies for the first time I tried not to abuse the tyres too much because I knew the first two were already too far ahead. I dropped my pace and it really paid off because at the end of the race I was much stronger than him and it seems he apparently had some issue with the rear tyre. I want to say a huge thanks to my crew because onc e again they have done a fantastic job. We work a lot to be competitive for the race and this strategy is really paying off because in the last four races now I have been fighting for the podium. I also want to thank Yamaha for the great support they are offering us. Now I'm really looking forward to the next two races, particularly my home race at Mugello, because after fighting for the podium consistently I am confident that I will be able to repeat this performance another time.”

Cal Crutchlow 5th – 77 points:

“Once again I am contemplating what might have been because without the incident at the first corner I had the pace to be on the podium today. I was actually quite lucky to avoid being collected by Alvaro and Jorge but I still had to run off track and I was last. I'm glad Jorge was not hurt because the job he has done for Yamaha this season has been incredible and he didn't deserve that today. Alvaro was way too fast and I know he didn't do that intentionally but you have to be sensible when braking from high-speed for a tight first corner like that. Like in Silverstone I was right at the back but just decided to get my head down and recover as many places as possible. I had a really good battle with the Ducatis but I had a faster pace, although I had one big moment when I lost the front on lap eight and had to do all the hard work again. To be at the back and still come through to fifth is a fantastic result. But there is no doubt I should have been in the battle with Andrea and Ben. With my ankle still causing me a lot of pain and coming from last to fifth, I can't be too disappointed and I leave here still fourth in the World Championship and that is very important.”

Herve Poncharal – Team Manager:

“We have mixed emotions after that race. On one side we are ecstatic because Andrea is back on the podium again and he rode a fantastic race. His pace was impressive throughout and he definitely deserved to be on the podium. It is not an easy job to fight against the factory bikes in MotoGP and the way he chased down Ben in the last four laps was very exciting. We were just hoping that he had enough time left to pass Ben and his timing was perfect to get third on the last lap. Andrea saved his tyres well and he is really showing his class at the moment. With a bit more luck he might have been on the podium in the last four races, so I am really pleased with the job Andrea is doing for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team. We are a little bit disappointed though for Cal, even though he rode another phenomenal race. He showed again he had the pace for the podium but he had to run off track at the f irst corner to avoid the incident with Jorge and Alvaro. It is a shame because I have no doubt he would have been in the battle with Andrea and Ben. But he never gives up and that is a great quality of his. He was last like in Silverstone but fought incredibly hard to get back into the top six and he deserves a lot of credit. I am sure it is not going to be long before Cal gets his first podium but to have both of our riders back in the top five is a great achievement. After seven races we are third just 35-points behind the official Yamaha Factory Team in the Team World Championship. That confirms the incredible support we get from Yamaha but also the wonderful job Andrea and Cal are doing.”

Crutchlow and Dovizioso target strong race at historic Assen

Cal Crutchlow Assen 2012

Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team riders Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso will start tomorrow's historic Dutch TT from inside the top seven after a rain disrupted qualifying session at Assen this afternoon.

Less than 15 minutes of the session had elapsed when a short cloudburst forced Crutchlow and Dovizioso into the pits when they were lying eighth and third respectively on the timesheets.

The track quickly dried and after a 10-minute delay, Crutchlow and Dovizioso were able to resume their preparation s for tomorrow's 26-lap race.

Both were just about to start switching to Bridgestone's soft tyre to push for a fast lap time when a second rain shower hit with 20 minutes remaining and forced them back into the pits once again.

Six minutes remained when the rapidly changing conditions suddenly improved and grey and gloomy skies gave way to glorious sunshine and Crutchlow and Dovizioso were able to attack for three laps on slick tyres.

Continuing to ride in considerable discomfort with the broken left ankle he suffered in practice for his home round at Silverstone 13 days ago, Crutchlow produced a stunning final lap of 1.34.486 to finish fifth quickest.

Crutchlow's brilliant last lap attack continue d his impressive qualifying record in 2012 and he will start tomorrow's race from inside the top five for the sixth time in seven races. The 26-year-old is confident he can maintain his grip on fourth place in the World Championship standings.

Changes to the set-up of his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 machine gave Dovizioso the front-end confidence and feedback he lacked yesterday and a lap of 1.34.698 secured him seventh position on the grid.

Dovizioso was as high as third in the early part of the session prior to the rain interruptions but he was unable to improve his lap time in a frenetic finale to the session. The Italian's pace in race trim though has boosted his confidence that he will be battling for the rostrum for the fourth race in succession.

Cal Cru tchlow 5th 1.34.486 – 17 laps:
“I'm happy on one side because to be fifth fastest and on the second row is a good result considering my physical condition and how much pain I have from the left ankle. But I'm upset a little bit too because I'm sure I could have been into the 33s and on the front row, but (Hector) Barbera got in my way on my final lap and cost me some crucial tenths. He was looking for a tow again to improve his lap time like he always does and unfortunately it was me that got caught up with him this time. All week though I have been consistently in the top five and my aim was to be in the top six, so I am not doing badly. We'll make a decision on which tyre to use tomorrow but we have a little bit of work to do on stopping the bike in a few areas, but we have some ideas to make it better. It will be a tough race with the ankle injury and fighting with Jorge (Lorenzo) is going to be incredibly difficult. He's got an amazing pace but I am doing the best job I can and will be looking to finish in the top six.”

Andrea Dovizioso 7th 1.34.698 – 17 laps:
“It is a pity to be starting on the third row of the grid because I am sure my potential is much higher. It was a very tricky session with the weather conditions changing a lot, but I am really happy to have done a 34.7 on the hard tyre. We have made some big steps improving my feeling with the front-end of the bike and I am satisfied with my race pace. I am sure I will be able to fight for the podium. I was on the third row at Silverstone but still came through to battle for the podium and that is a realistic goal tomorrow. In the final minutes when I went out on the new rear tyre, I didn't feel ready to push right at the limit. Going into the firs t corner I locked the rear wheel and lost some time and because I wasn't sure if I had warmed the rear tyre up enough, I decided not to take any big risks. I am sure I could have been higher up the grid but I am confident for the race and my Monster Yamaha Tech 3 crew have done a fantastic job again improving the bike in every session.”

Report: New Accord will feature Honda's answer to Ford's SYNC

Honda Fit EV HondaLink

Honda desperately needs to hit a home run with its all-new 2013 Accord, a car that's perennially on the best-seller list in the United States.

The current Accord, which is in its eighth generation, debuted in 2008 before most of the latest and greatest technological advances began filtering their way into the interiors of mainstream cars and trucks. As such, Honda's family sedan offering is a ways behind in the infotainment and navigation categories.

For 2013, Honda will launch HondaLink, its next-generation infotainment package, in the Accord. Though the technology will see a much smaller debut in the Fit EV (as seen above), that rollout won't hit the masses the way it undoubtedly will in the Accord.

According to Wired, it's not yet clear if Honda will rely on satellite data or if the automaker will incorporate a cellular modem into the package, but either way, Honda's Aha Radio service will make its first appearance in the 2013 Accord. There's also a possibility that the Accord could be the first machine to use Siri integration from Apple, though that's nothing more than speculation at this point.

We certainly look forward to see what Honda has cooked up for its bread-winning model. After all, as shown most notably by Ford, having the most built-in technology, especially in its first generation, isn't always a slam-dunk with mainstream consumers.

BJ Penn and Rory MacDonald volunteer for additional drug testing for UFC 152

BJ Penn, who is expected to fight Rory MacDonald at UFC 152 in Toronto, is leading by example in the campaign to introduce more stringent performance-enhancing drug testing into MMA. He and MacDonald tweeted an agreement to have their September bout sponsored by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.
Penn tweeted to MacDonald on Tuesday:

. @rory_macdonald VADA anti-doping has offered to sponsor our upcoming fight.I've accepted and invite you to help me clean up the sport

. @rory_macdonald VADA results will be released after the fight to ensure that the fight happens. Lets get started asap!!

MacDonald responded:

@bjpenndotcom already worried BJ? honestly i think its a great idea 2, and im ready to do the testing for our fight aswell @danawhite

According to VADA's website, Penn and MacDonald will be subject to a testing program similar to what Olympic athletes under go. They will be subject to random testing, and have to submit their whereabouts to VADA so drug testers can show up whenever they like to require a test.

If it's truly modeled after the Olympic program, Penn and MacDonald need to be ready for knocks on their door at all times of the day and night. Olympians often tweet when the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency shows up at their door, and it's rarely expected.

Kudos to both men for paying more than lip service to the problem of PEDs in MMA. Penn is a respected veteran, while MacDonald is a young up-and-comer in the sport, and they both recognize the need to be role models. Hopefully, more fighters will follow their lead.

UPDATE: Penn's tweet was incorrect. VADA releases test results immediately and does not hold them until after an event.

Roy Nelson challenges Mike Russow to a win or leave (the heavyweight division) bout

In a heavyweight division of the UFC filled with fighters who are built like a Greek god, Roy Nelson and Mike Russow don't exactly fit the mold.  After watching Fabricio Werdum knock out Russow at UFC 147, Nelson was struck with matchmaking inspiration.

"I want Mike Russow and loser goes to 205 or becomes Dana White Rich. Let make it happen @danawhite," Nelson tweeted.

Both men appear to carry more body fat than most of their counterparts and look like they could cut down a weight class. They also both have recent losses to Werdum, as Nelson dropped a decision to him in February.

This isn't the first time Nelson has contemplated a drop down. In March, he said he would try to get to light heavyweight if he added 100,000 Facebook likes. However, he abandoned the plan when he was booked for the all-heavyweight main card at UFC 146.

A drop for Russow, who weighed in at 246 pounds for UFC 147, may be a bit more difficult than for Nelson. In addition to being a pro fighter, he is a full-time officer in the Chicago Police Department. He doesn't train full time, like Nelson does.

Of course, the difficulty in dropping down would also give Russow more motivation to win the fight. Do you want to see this fight? Speak your mind in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Aaron Simpson will honor Pat Tillman at UFC on Fuel 4

Aaron Simpson went to Arizona State with NFL player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman. Simpson became friends with Pat's brother Kevin, and Pat and Kevin would come to wrestling meets to support Simpson and the other Sun Devil wrestlers.

"I can remember exactly where I was when I found out Pat was killed, and how I handled it, which wasn't good," Simpson told Cagewriter. To honor Tillman and his legacy, Simpson will wear the number 42 on his fight shorts for his bout with Kenny Robertson at UFC on Fuel 4.

"I want people who don't know him to at least give notice to who he was. Look him up. Honor his family, his wife, and bring more viewership to his foundation, the Pat Tillman Foundation."

Tillman surprised the sporting world when left a promising and lucrative NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals to become an Army Ranger after the September 11th attacks. He was killed in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004.

He went to high school in the San Jose area, where Simpson's fight will take place. It seemed like the perfect time for Simpson to honor Tillman. Kevin agreed.

"I texted Kevin, and he said, 'Pat would really appreciate it. Pat would have loved this,'" Simpson said.

"He didn't want to be known for what he did in serving the military. He was the kind of guy that wasn't about himself or bringing recognition to himself or what he did. He was a team player. I don't want to make too big. In a way, it's a kind of personal thing. I just want to remember him."

The Pat Tillman Foundation gives scholarships to military families. Support them here.
