Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson Singles Record

'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' marks Perry's fifth #1 single from Teenage Dream, equal only to MJ's Bad achievement.

Back in June, Katy Perry was closing in on Michael Jackson's record for the most #1 singles from the same album — and now she's tied it up. Thanks to the feel-good party jam "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," Perry has the same number of #1 singles from Teenage Dream on the Hot 100 as the late King of Pop did from 1987's Bad.

Now, Perry is both the only woman with five #1 singles from the same album and also the only living artist with that record. So what singles got her there aside from "Last Friday Night"? Perry's previous #1's from Teenage Dream are "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and "E.T." Jackson achieved this feat back in 1987 and 1988 with "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana" from his Bad album.

"What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song 'LAST FRIDAY NIGHT' is officially #1 & made HISTORY!" the singer tweeted Wednesday (August 17). "&u know, I couldn't have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG... so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu."

Explore our "Katy Perry: By The Numbers" infographic:

Perry broke another singles record earlier this month, having the first album from the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart to have five #1 singles. Perry's Teenage Dream album is the first in the nearly 19-year history of the chart to accomplish that feat.

"Last Friday Night" has proven to be another successful track for the star, and the party anthem recently got an assist from Missy Elliott on the remix.

Perry's Teenage Dream videos have also been cultural smashes. For the 2011 Video Music Awards, Perry racked up the most nominations with nine, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "Firework"; Best Pop Video for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed "E.T.," which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy "Teenage Dream" clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography.

What's your favorite Teenage Dream single? Let us know in the comments below!

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Duane Ludwig?s quest to set the record straight

Duane Ludwig is going into surgery today to repair a compressed disc in his neck, but healing up from his win over Amir Sadollah at UFC on Versus 5 is not his only project. Ludwig also wants the Nevada Athletic Commission to correct the time of his knockout of Jonathan Goulet, which would give Ludwig the fastest KO in MMA.

To reach that goal, Ludwig has enlisted the help of his fans and other fighters. Via Twitter, he has asked fans to "like" his Facebook petition, and send emails to the commission. Todd Duffee, the current record holder with a KO of Tim Hague in seven seconds, even supports Ludwig, as shown in their picture together. Ludwig claims that the knockout happened in four seconds.

In 2006, Ludwig knocked Goulet out almost immediately from the bell, but the official timer recorded the time as 11 seconds. UFC commentator Joe Rogan picked up Ludwig's cause at the time, and still stumps for a time change every time he interviews Ludwig after a fight.

Ludwig isn't just relying just on a Facebook and email campaign to get Nevada officials to change their mind:

"The UFC sent me a copy of the DVD, so I'm going to send that off to the commission with a letter and then with a link to the Facebook [petition] I have," he said. "Hopefully that gets locked down. That would be cool."

It's a smart move to use both tactics. Though Facebook campaigns have worked to get Betty White on "Saturday Night Live," video evidence is probably more important to the good people of the Nevada Athletic Commission.

If you want to support Ludwig in his quest, like the Facebook page here, and find the email address to the NAC here.

Help Hyundai build the 2012 Azera by... building a 2012 Azera

hyundai azera configurator screenshot

Hyundai is almost ready to sell you a 2012 Azera. Before it does that, however, it needs your help. The Korean automaker has posted a link that leads you to a configurator for the 2012 Azera, and there is a survey posted at the end. The configurator will give you a good idea of how much the Azera will end up costing, as well as what color choices will be made available.

We built our own 2012 Azera, and think it looks mighty fine in Smoke Gray Metallic with a Graphite Black leather interior. Checking the box for the Premium Package, our prototype Azera would cost us around $36,000.

Check out the configurator for yourself by clicking here, and be sure to answer the survey at the end. Maybe your decisions will help dictate what type of car we see when the Azera is revealed at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Michael Jackson's Family Upset With James Durbin Over 'American Idol' Pepsi Quip

'We were shocked to see this,' read the Jacksons' message; Durbin tweeted an apology on Thursday.
By Gil Kaufman

James Durbin performs on "American Idol" on Wednesday
Photo: Michael Becker/ Fox

Some people might argue that it's patently unfair to take rank amateurs, put them on the biggest show on TV and then expose them to potential worldwide ridicule every week. Because it's one thing to tune in to "American Idol" from your living room or play shows at the local wings joint, it's another thing entirely when you get up on that stage and open your mouth with tens of millions watching and listening.

James Durbin learned this lesson the hard way this week when he made what he thought was an innocent crack about not setting himself on fire during his pyro-tastic cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" on Wednesday night.

Asked by host Ryan Seacrest if he was worried about dancing around among the flames shooting up from the piano onstage, Durbin joked, "I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it from jumping around — so much so, the one thing I was worried about was having a 'Pepsi moment.' "

The seemingly innocent crack was a reference to the 1984 on-set accident in which late pop icon Michael Jackson was badly burned during the shooting of a Pepsi commercial by some wayward pyro effects. The serious burns he suffered in the incident allegedly led to his longtime addiction to pain medication and prescription drugs.

The Jackson family was not amused by the quip and sent a statement to TMZ on Thursday.

"We were shocked to see this. It's nothing to make light of and everybody should be focusing on who was responsible for Michael's death," read the statement. Family patriarch Joseph Jackson also was reportedly miffed that "Idol" producers did not cut the comment from the West Coast feed of the show.

Durbin defended his slip-up in a tweet, which has since been scrubbed from the singer's official "Idol" Twitter feed, that explained, "For anyone talkin ... I said pepsi NOT MJ! I have no disrespect for Michael. I grew up singing his art. I guess youll take it how you want it." He later added, "Talkin about MJs passing is too soon. Making a reference to an incident 25 years ago..not too soon. The stab was at pepsi people."

It's worth noting that Pepsi's bitter rival, Coca-Cola, is the main "Idol" sponsor, a fact that Seacrest reminded Durbin of in an awkward moment after the comment on the show.

What did you think of James Durbin's "Pepsi" quip? Tell us in the comments.

Do you smoke?

Health advocacy takes many different forms. Whether it's a quiet reminder from a friend that tobacco use can kill you, a shocking television ad from the likes of the American Lung Association or a bold billboard from the American Cancer Society, it seems like smokers simply can't catch a break. They've been relegated to cramped, sealed-off rooms at (some) airports and banished from bars and restaurants all over the country. Nearly every public space is protected from second-hand smoke, and as a result, smokers themselves are forced to huddle around safe zones like dehydrated animals at a far-flung watering hole.

Still, some individuals chose to carry on with the habit, including a shocking number of young people. No matter what doctors, parents, scientists or even the tobacco companies themselves can convince these individuals that the risks associated with smoking outweigh any potential benefits. What does all this have to do with cars, you ask? Hit the jump to find out how one group of upstanding young men is working to deter smoking in their area.

When Anderson Silva Fights, Opponents and Records Both Fall

Filed under:

Anderson Silva celebrated his 36th birthday just two months ago, yet at an age when most fighters are nearing the conclusion of their athletic careers, the "Spider" looks no closer to falling back to the middleweight pack. A true natural phenomenon, he seems immune to aging and unaffected by the laws of physics.

So far above the rest is Silva that not only has he never lost in the UFC octagon, he's also barely ever been in a real fight. During his record UFC run, only Chael Sonnen pushed him for any extended period of time. Yushin Okami was thought to have a chance due to a skill-set that is similar to Sonnen's, yet after Silva spent a couple minutes surveying Okami's tentative plans, it soon became a quick night of work.

The victory extended some of Silva's own records, and set others. Here's a look at some of his historic marks.

Most all-time knockdowns in UFC history - 15
No. 2 - Chuck Liddell, 14
Silva is arguably the most devastating striker in UFC history, even ahead of big punchers like Liddell or Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Amazingly, Silva has his 15 knockdowns in 14 career bouts. Liddell needed 23 fights to notch his 14 knockdowns. How does he do it? See below.

No. 1 in significant strike accuracy - 68.5%
No. 2 - Cheick Kongo, 61.3%
One of the reasons Silva is No. 1 all-time in UFC knockdowns is because of his accuracy. When Silva finds his range, he gets laser-lock on his opponent, and it becomes target practice. He's not just No. 1 in this category, he's No. 1 by a wide margin. If you stand in front of Silva, you're going to get hit, and hit hard.

Longest all-time UFC win streak - 14
No. 2 - Georges St-Pierre, 9
Fourteen straight wins is an absurd number at the highest level of MMA. There are too many ways to lose, yet his opponents haven't found one yet. Think about this: Chuck Liddell's longest UFC win streak was seven. Matt Hughes' was six. Randy Couture's was four. BJ Penn's is three. Those are four of the most respected champions in UFC history, and Silva's streak is completely out of their league.

Best all-time UFC win percentage - 1.000 (tie)
No. 2 - Cain Velasquez, 1.000
Maybe one day Velasquez can boast of a record like Silva's, but he's not there quite yet despite holding the UFC heavyweight championship. His seven straight wins are only half of what Silva has accomplished, and his first couple of fights as a rookie were against fellow newcomers who didn't present him any significant challenge. Silva, on the other hand, was basically a top contender from the second he entered the UFC octagon for the first time. He's basically always faced the best available competition.

Most title fight victories - 10
No. 2 - Georges St-Pierre, 9
St-Pierre's number comes with an asterisk, as one of his title fight wins was an interim title bout. GSP is 9-2 in title bouts, an excellent record, but it doesn't sound nearly as impressive against Silva's ridiculous 10-0 mark. When you're the champion, everyone is gunning for you. When you're the champion as long as Silva, your challenger works extra hard to attain the historic position of being the man to end the streak. Yet Silva keeps right on winning.

%VIRTUAL-Gallery-131871%

Most UFC title defenses - 9
No. 2 - St-Pierre, 6
Keeping motivation levels high after you reach the top is a great challenge to many athletes. It's easy to focus when there is someone else to focus on. But when you reach the top, there is a natural tendency to look around and enjoy the view. Silva hasn't gotten lazy or got into bad habits. He continues to work hard and that's why he stays physically sharp.

Longest reign by days - 1,779
By virtue of his win over Okami, Silva virtually ensures that he will hold the belt on October 14, a day that will mark the fifth anniversary of his championship win over Rich Franklin back at UFC 64. One day he'll lose the belt, right? Right?

At this point, it's safe to say Silva is the greatest mixed martial artist in history. The sport is still young, so it's quite possible someone will surpass his achievements within a few years, but for those of us lucky enough to have witnessed him, we'll know what we saw. For Anderson Silva, winning was not enough, he had to set records, too. Age may be chasing him in a way that opponents never could, but for now, it appears that neither is gaining any ground.

Lady Gaga, Beyonce Win Early VMAs

Gaga's 'Born This Way' took home Best Video With a Message early Sunday night.

Lady Gaga — trailblazer in yet another pop culture realm! The singer's "Born This Way" won the first-ever Moonman for Best Video With a Message at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday evening.

"I'm really proud of the 'Born This Way' video, and for it to be nominated is an absolute honor," Gaga earlier told MTV News.

The winner of the Best Video With a Message award, devoted to videos where music and social activism unite with positive messages that delve into some of the biggest issues of the day, was announced during the black carpet Pre-Show — just one of a handful of early awards.

Adele won big, taking home three professional awards. She bested Gaga, Katy Perry and Kanye West to win Best Art Direction for "Rolling in the Deep." The Brit chanteuse's video also took Editing (over 'Ye and 30 Seconds to Mars) and Cinematography (over Beyoncé and Eminem). But Beyoncé and Katy didn't head into the Nokia Theatre for the main show empty handed.

Beyoncé nabbed Choreography for "Run the World (Girls)," beating out Gaga's "Judas," Britney Spears' "Till the World Ends" and Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song." Perry, meanwhile, who entered the night as the most-nominated artist, secured Special Effects for "E.T."

"Even teasing people with different images from 'E.T.,' people are so perplexed," Perry told MTV News back in March. "They're like, 'Katy Perry, you're supposed to be Betty Boop! You're supposed to be wearing pink!' It's exciting to be able to push my audience, to be like, 'There's always more, I've got all of this hidden up my sleeve that I've really longed to show people.'"

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

With Win, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Staves Off Retirement Talk...for Now

Filed under:

Antonio Rodrigo NogueiraRIO DE JANEIRO -- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira wanted to fight in front of his countrymen so badly, he admitted to rushing a complex rehab process just to be ready in time for the Rio fight card.

But as he made his way to the cage to take on Brendan Schaub at UFC 134, even the veteran of 40 professional fights was a little overwhelmed by the frenzied reaction from the Brazilian crowd.

"When I was walking to the ring I was super nervous," he admitted with a sheepish smile at the post-fight press conference. "I couldn't really look up to the crowd."

A little over three minutes after the fight had started, when Nogueira's bigger, younger American opponent was lying face first on the mat, that's when the MMA legend finally took a moment to let it all sink in.

"It was only after I had finished the fight that I looked up to the crowd and saw how much noise was being made," he said through an interpreter at the post-fight press conference.

Of course, as he looked up, he might have also seen the celebratory beers flying in from the overjoyed audience members, who apparently loved seeing Nogueira win more than they enjoyed finishing their drinks.

UFC president Dana White said UFC officals "get a little freaked out" when fans start throwing nearly full drinks into the cage, but he also said that the stakes may have been higher on Saturday than even Nogueira fully realized.

"I talked to Nogueira after his last fight and was talking to him about retiring," White said. "And, you know, he was pretty pissed off about that. That's why when I came out and I was talking about Tito [Ortiz] and Tito won that fight, Nogueira was one of the guys who jumped on his side saying, listen, you don't make those [expletive] decisions -- we do. That's not really true, I do make those decisions."

Nogueira might not have wanted to hear it, but after he get knocked out by Cain Velasquez in the first round at UFC 110, White had started to consider whether it might be time for him to hang up the gloves.

But, to his credit, Nogueira went through three surgeries on his hips and knees, built himself back up through an ardous rehab, and came back in surprisingly good condition to out-strike Schaub in front of his home crowd.

It was a long road to get there, and a rocky one at times, according to his wrestling coach, Eric Albarracin.

"I see him in the gym," Albarracin said before the fight. "We have to stretch him a lot before and after. He's got a physical therapist who's always there. She's on call 24/7."

It paid off on Saturday, as Nogueira -- one of the few Brazilian underdogs on the card -- scored a shocking knockout in the opening frame. When asked how far the win might have put him from being in title contention, and how many fights he'd have to win to get back in that conversation, White said it wasn't simply how many, "it's who" Nogueira beats.

Regardless of what he says in his own defense, White insisted, he's not about to sit around and watch Nogueira, or any other fighter, go on too long and risk his own health.

"I'm not going to let this thing be boxing," said White. "When a guy is done, we know he's done. I don't want to make one dollar of that kind of money. "

Ever since they were first announced, the O Music Awards have proudly proclaimed themselves the untraditional alternative to the staid world of red carpets, acceptance speeches and celebrity glad-handing.

And for further proof of that point, consider the following: Though the inaugural O Music Awards won't premiere until April 28, the first award will be handed out on Monday at 4 p.m. ET ... and it's a big one.

For weeks, fans have been voting for the Most Innovative Music Video through the O Music Awards official site, and on Monday — in a roundtable debate moderated by MTV News' James Montgomery — a winner will be crowned.

The O Music Awards Debate for the Most Innovative Music Video, presented by FUZE®, will stream live on OMusicAwards.com and MTV.com. Joining Montgomery around the table will be acclaimed video director Wayne Isham, Mashable's Brenna Ehrlich and some super-secret celebrity guests.

The Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and more will also take part in the discussion about just what makes a video truly innovative, and the folks who are nominated for the award — a list that includes Arcade Fire, Robyn, OK Go and Andy Grammer — will also Skype in to make the case for why their video deserves to be named Most Innovative.

On Monday morning, the original list of 10 nominees will be whittled down to the top five vote-getters, and then, during the debate, our roundtable and the Internet audience will cut that list down to the final three. At the very end, we'll announce the winner of the very first O Music Award for Most Innovative Video.

The inaugural O Music Awards will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!

UFC 134 openers: Alcantara and Jabouin victorious in Rio

The first of 14 Brazilians to appear on the card tonight at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro put on a good scrap. The elder of the two, Yuri Alcantara showed a little more poise and scored well in each round to roll to a unanimous decision victory, 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28, over Felipe Arantes at UFC 134 in Brazil.

Technically, this was Alcantara's UFC debut, but he already has a Zuffa win under his belt from WEC 53 where he destroyed Ricardo Lamas via first-round knockout. His gameplan wasn't too tricky tonight. Arantes didn't possess the takedown defense to stay off his back. Alcantara (25-3, 1-0 UFC) scored five takedowns. He spent most of the time trying to improve position. Alcantara did land a nasty elbow in the second that opened a small cut around Arantes' right eye.

Alcantara also threatened for a rear-naked choke early in the third, but gave up the position seconds later when he failed to secure Arantes' lower half. Alcantara is reportedly a jiu-jitsu black belt, but appeared sloppy on most occasions when threatened for a submission or got the mount. Give him credit though, getting to those positions is impressive in itself.

Jabouin gets first UFC win

Jabouin made a successful debut at 135 pounds tonight. His kicking game was too much for Ian Loveland to handle. Jabouin landed most of the significant shots in the fight and took a split decision victory, 29-28 on two cards and 27-30 on the other.

Jabouin was particularly effective using the spinning back kick. He crushed any hopes of Loveland getting the win by also exhibiting good takedown defense.

Loveland's lost two straight. He's 1-2 with the UFC. Jabouin is 16-7 and now 2-3 with Zuffa promotions.

News ? Edwards brimming with confidence after fast start in Indiana

#Edwards brimming with confidence after fast start in #Indianapolis

Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team rider Colin Edwards made a superb start to his home MotoGP round at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway today.

The popular Texan finished inside the top six in both practice sessions as preparations for round 12 of this year's MotoGP World Championship commenced in hot and humid conditions.

Edwards finished this morning's first 45-minute session in a fantastic third position and he was one of only two non-factory riders to lap inside the top 10. Lap times were some way off last year's pace as the field got to grips with the repaved infield section between turns five and 16.

But with more rubber laid on the track, times tumbled in the second practice and Edwards was able to knock almost two seconds off his best pace. He ended with a fastest time of 1.41.699 to finish sixth on the combined timesheets, the 37-year-old once again leaving a host of factory supported riders trailing in his wake. Edwards was just over 0.2s behind reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo in fourth and he's confident he can mount a challenge for a top six in Sunday's 28-lap race.

Cal Crutchlow was also able to drastically improve his lap times in the second session, the British rider taking full advantage of the improved grip levels to finish with a best time of 1.43.085. That was 2.3s quicker than his benchmark set this morning as Crutchlow worked on improving the set-up of his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team machine, while also trying to learn the technically demanding Indianapolis Mo tor Speedway track.

Crutchlow finished in 15th position overall but was only 0.7s away from the top 10. The 25-year-old is confident with improved track conditions and further set-up modifications to gain more front-end confidence, he will be able to compete for a top 10 grid position in tomorrow afternoon's qualifying session.

Colin Edwards

Position 6th - Time 1.41.699 - Laps 36

?This morning it felt like I was back at the Texas Tornado Boot Camp but just riding a more expensive bike because it was pretty slippery out there. To be honest I actually really enjoyed it even though the grip was a bit sketchy. We all knew that grip was going to be a little bit of an issue this morning but it was 100 per cent dirt track. As soon as you got your knee on the ground the front would go and the rear would come round, but I still had a lot of fun with the bike moving around so much. This afternoon with a lot more rubber down it was a lot better and hats off to the folks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They've done an amazing job because the bumps that have been really bad have mostly gone and with a bit more rubber down the surface is going to offer a lot more grip. We won't feel the benefit of the new tarmac this year but the changes are for the future and next year it is going to be a million times better. Being third this morning and sixth this afternoon has given me a lot of confidence for the rest of the weekend. I'm not fighting the bike this weekend and it feels awesome.?

Cal Crutchlow

Position 15th - Time 1.43.085 - Laps 37

?This morning was pretty difficult because the track was very slippery and I was having to contend with not a lot of grip while also trying to push to l earn the track. Sometimes I'd run off line and it was so dirty that I was losing a lot of time. The track was in much better condition this afternoon but it felt like I didn't have the front grip I needed to push for a faster time. We had a lot of wear on the tyre and not much grip and I'm not sure why. The issue this year has been losing the front on the brakes, but today I was losing the front mid-corner and off the throttle. I'm sure we can make some big steps with the set-up and I'm confident I can climb a few places up the order and fight for a top 10 in qualifying tomorrow. The good thing is that every single lap we make improvements and I go faster, so if we can get more front-end feeling then I'm looking forward to having a strong race.?

MotoGP: Lap Record Falls During Qualifying for Indy GP

Lapping under perhaps the best conditions Indianapolis has to offer in late-August, MotoGP took to The Brickyard for the 2011 Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Though Indy’s newly paved track failed to impress riders with its first impression, as more rubber was put down on the racing line during the weekend’s sessions, the pavement increased its grip, making for some impressive lap times in the later practice sessions. With Casey Stoner breaking Indy’s outright best lap ...

UFC 134 Results for Spike TV Prelims: Palhares Earns Odd Win Over Miller, Tavares Crushes Fisher

UFC 134 continued on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a pair of preliminary bouts on Spike TV, including one of the strangest moments in MMA history when Rousimar Palhares incorrectly assumed he had finished Dan Miller in the opening round.

Palhares would go on to survive a knockdown and earn a dominant unanimous decision over Miller, while the second fight saw Thiago Tavares smother Spencer Fisher before scoring a second-round TKO.

Barboza picks apart Pearson for win at UFC 134

Edson Barboza was simply too long and fast for Ross Pearson tonight at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro. The 5-foot-11 Barboza stayed on the move for 15 minutes and picked his shots on the way to a split decision victory 29-28 on the two cards and 28-29 on the other.

Pearson did well to survive against a guy who's looked spectacular at times in previous fights. Barboza's best weapon are his kicks. Pearson decided to push forward and close space for most of the night. His face showed the affect.

By the end of the fight, he had a good size hematoma over his left eye and a cut above his right eye. When there was space, Barboza (9-0, 3-0 UFC) did his biggest damage with some nifty spinning kicks.

Pearson, the champ from Season 9 of "The Ultimate Fighter," is now 5-2 in his official UFC fights. He looked a little beefier than normal for this one. Pearson's lack of speed made him an easy target for Barboza.

The judges were split on the fight. the number may back up the judge who chose Pearson. According to FightMetric, the Brit actually outlanded Barboza 60-55. Who landed the more significant, powerful shots? That can be debated. Check the fighter's faces at the close of the fight. Barboza wasn't showing much damage.

Bruno Mars Says VMA Win Would Be 'Coolest Thing Ever'

'The Lazy Song' clip is up against Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and LMFAO for Best Choreography.
By Jocelyn Vena

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars' heartfelt clip for "Grenade" is up for three Moonmen at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards: Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Pop Video. He's obviously very excited by these three nods, but it's his fourth that really gets "The Lazy Song" singer going.

He can't wait to see if he can beat out Beyoncé ("Run the World (Girls)"), Britney Spears ("Till the World Ends"), Lady Gaga ("Judas") and LMFAO ("Party Rock Anthem") for Best Choreography for his track about just wanting to stay home and chill out.

"You know what I'm excited for? As much as I put blood, sweat and tears into 'Grenade,' I'm excited for 'The Lazy Song,' Best Choreography," he dished to MTV News. "That is amazing."

In the video, Bruno is captured hanging out at home, dancing around his living room and monkeying around with a few, well, monkeys. "I called up my friends the Poreotics [from 'America's Best Dance Crew'] and we shot this and choreographed this in one day," he recalled of the fun video. "And I think that would be the coolest thing ever if I went home and saw a Moonman that said: Best Choreography, Bruno Mars, 'The Lazy Song.' "

As silly and ironic as it seems for the singer to win the award for that track, he did put a lot of the same "blood, sweat and tears" into it as he did for "Grenade." "We worked really hard on it, and we wanted to give people something to laugh at and show personality in the song and what we're talking about," he said. " 'The Lazy Song' is not necessarily the song you want to hear in the club, but we put our monkey dance to it."

The 28th annual will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Anderson Silva's Win Proves He's the Best, UFC Prez Says, So Now What?

Filed under:

RIO DE JANEIRO -- As far as UFC president Dana White is concerned, there hasn't been any doubt about where Anderson Silva stands for some time now. But after Saturday night's destruction of Yushin Okami at UFC 134, White said, it should no longer even be a question.

"One thing I want to make clear, and I've been saying this for a long time, this guy is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world," White said of Silva. "There's no debate. You're out of your mind if you don't think this guy is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. People will say, 'Oh, he needs to be challenged.' The [185-pound] division has a ton of great fighters. The reality is, this guy is so good, he makes it look like it's not."

Former foe Forrest Griffin had a more succinct way of putting it when discussing who Silva should face next: "I say he fights two guys."

Fighting in front of his countrymen for the first time in his UFC career, the middleweight champion easily dispatched Okami in the second round, and seemed as if he might have even been drawing the fight out to get it to last that long. From the opening minutes of the bout, Okami wasn't much more than target practice for Silva, who eventually dropped him with a punch combo and then finished the woozy challenger with a barrage of strikes on the ground.

For Silva, who had watched the first UFC event in Brazil in 1998, it was a dream come true, he said, and one that would have seemed improbable at best back in the days of the UFC's first foray into South America.

"At that time I practiced other martial arts," Silva said via an interpreter. "I didn't even consider doing mixed martial arts. It was awesome to be able to fight here in Brazil, in front of Brazilian people."

Of course, at this point every Silva fight concludes the same way, and that's with questions about when he might face UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre.

As is typical, Silva didn't do much more than make silly faces as potential opponents were mentioned at the post-fight press conference, saying once again that, ideally, he'd like to face his clone in his next fight.

%VIRTUAL-Gallery-131871%

Until the scientific community can make that dream a reality, however, it sounds like White has some other ideas.

"I think there's a couple other fights out there for him at 185 [pounds]," the UFC president said of Silva before admitting that both GSP and the middleweight champ are "getting into a position here where that fight's going to make sense."

If it does materialize soon, the biggest problem, according to White, might be finding the right venue to host the dream fight.

"I honestly believe, there's a couple more fights for Anderson and Georges, and if they both win, I honestly don't know if there's a stadium big enough for that fight."

As for Okami, his future is less certain. The loss against Silva tosses him back into the middle of the UFC's middleweight pack, but that doesn't mean White is ready to take back any of the praise he lavished on him in the lead-up to this bout.

"Yushin Okami -- I said it before the fight and I'll say it again after the fight -- he's one of the best 185-pound fighters in the world and he's the best fighter to come out of Japan," White said in response to a question about whether the UFC would keep Okami on the roster.

But once again, it was Griffin who put things in terms everyone could understand.

"There's a long list of guys who get beat up by Anderson," he said. "If you fire them all, you're not going to have anybody left."
