The story of the 5th WSBK round at Miller Motorsports Park was all Carlos Checa. Last year he had the pace but not a reliable machine. This year he had both, dominating the weekend with the triple crown: Superpole and victories in Race 1 and Race 2. MMP provided a formidable challenge with wildly varying weather, from pouring rain to bright sunshine to freezing cold winds. Adaptable, patient, and just plain the fastest rider of ...

Lightweight division heating up with trash talk between Pettis and Maynard

The lightweight division is the deepest in the world, but it's lacked sizzle until recently. A division loaded with super-talented, but nice, polite dudes doesn't always sell with the casual fan. UFC 125 served as a prime example when the promotion had a tougher time selling tickets to the Frank Edgar-Gray Maynard fight. The fans made a mistake because it turned out to be a candidate for 2011 Fight of the Year.

In a way, you couldn't blame fan, because Edgar and Maynard didn't generate a ton of heat before the fight. Now, because the division is so crowded at the top, it looks like the days of mutual respect and glove tapping won't be as prevalent.

Anthony Pettis isn't happy with Gray Maynard and didn't hold back during a recent conversation with the Las Vegas Sun.

Last month, Maynard suggested Pettis is a product of overhype.

"I mean, who has he fought? I've been in the trenches this whole time fighting the toughest guys. He throws one kick and then he's the greatest in the world? Let's look at who he's fought. Ben Henderson is the best name," Maynard said referencing Pettis' "Showtime Kick" near the end of his win over Henderson. That kick made Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays of the Year.

Maynard respects a lot of his co-horts at lightweight, but has questions about Pettis.

[...] But for me, guys like Miller, Melendez and all of these guys who have been on the [expletive] grind, fighting the best competition for the past few years… that's what I look at," Maynard told MMAFA.tv. "Who have you fought? I don't care about how good you looked when you fought a scrub. That doesn't matter. If a guy isn't good then you're not supposed to look good. And for me, [Pettis] has fought one good guy in Ben, and he isn't proven yet. He's tough as hell, but we'll see."

Pettis fired back saying Maynard needed to get himself more attention and was just spouting off.

"He needs to get his face in the media somehow," Pettis told the Las Vegas Sun. "Gray is the No. 1 contender, but no one talks about him. He doesn't get a lot of press. I think he's trying to figure out a way to get people to talk about him. If he has to use my name to do that, he has to do what he has to do."

Pettis also said he thought that Maynard lost the fight against Edgar at UFC 125. After a big first round, Maynard allowed Edgar to creep back into the fight and pull out a draw.

On the heels of its official unveiling, Mercedes-Benz has dropped a video of the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster in its natural habitat. Let the ogling begin. If you were floored by the still shots of the latest confection from AMG, the video will leave you gibbering lump.

Though the Roadster loses the coupe's iconic gullwing doors, it keeps its performance credentials and only gains a scant 88 pounds. Power doesn't budge, but somehow Mercedes claims the topless SLS is quicker than the coupe to 60 by one hundredth of a second. That isn't much, but quicker is quicker. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: British GQ Cutie

Heating up the cover of British GQ's July issue, Rosie Huntington Whiteley shows off her fabulous long legs.

The ?Transformers: Dark of the Moon? babe looks absolutely stunning in the accompanying photo spread, and discusses her bouts with bullying growing up.

Given her amazing lips and beautiful face, Rosie had to deal with jealous kids picking on her, that is until she scored her first modeling gigs.

"I was really teased about the way I looked at school. I got teased because of my lips. I got called t*t lips - because I had big lips but no breasts. And then I was called kipper lips."

"There was this big group of girls who were the local answer to Mean Girls and they would storm the bathrooms shouting 'I'm going to f***ing get you Lips. See you on the school bus."

What you need to know from this week on “The Ultimate Fighter”

If Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter" has been missing anything, it's a bit of that pizazz from Brock Lesnar's WWE days. The former WWE champ still hasn't gone back to his roots, but between Chris Cope's Ric Flair-like "wooos" and Junior dos Santos screaming "what" like he was watching "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Episode 9 felt like being at a wrestling event.

It also turned out to be about and looking past an opponent and weak excuses.

Cope is supposedly the weak link on the show, but he proved everyone wrong again by pulling the upset on Team dos Santos' No. 1 pick Shamar Bailey.

UFC president Dana White called it before the fight saying Bailey looked one-dimensional in his opening round win and was overlooking Cope. Cope wasn't exactly Mr. Aggressive, but he successfully defended against nine takedown attempts and gassed Bailey on his way to a surprising 20-18 win.

Dos Santos was shocked.

"That [decision] was terrible for me," dos Santos said. "I looked at Dana and said 'what?'"

Bailey was also in disbelief saying, "he fought well, but I don't know about that. You can't win backing up the whole time."

White seemed pleased that Cope got the decision and wasn't hearing Bailey's lame excuse during a one-on-one conversation shortly after the fight.

"I just want to let you know I took a risk," Bailey told White. "I wanted to show you I could bang and not just wrestle. I left it in the hands of the judges. I could've took the easy way out and just took him down."

White quickly pointed to Bailey that he did try to take Cope down throughout the fight and had zero success.

There was no controversy in quarterfinal fight No. 1. Knowing that Ramsey Nijem is a strong wrestler, Brock Lesnar worked with Clay Harvison on his takedown defense. Harvison was drilled hard on getting out of the clinch.

Practice didn't make perfect. He was taken down just 10 seconds into the fight. When he tried to get back up he left his back exposed. Nijem worked to get the hooks in, then flattened out Harvison before locking on a rear-naked choke. It was all over in 56 seconds.

Next week it looks like Tony Ferguson goes psycho in the TUF house. He also faces Ryan McGillivray while Zach Davis battles "Cold Steel" Chuck O'Neil.

Senator or fighter? Stann sticks with the Octagon for now

Give Brian Stann credit, the guy doesn't need to be fighting in a cage. At age 30, Stann could pretty much choose any profession and be successful. As we witnessed today during the UFC 130 press conference, he'd be a great politician .

"I've been given an amazing opportunity by the UFC. I really make it a point to enjoy every minute I'm in that Octagon because in the blink of an eye that could be taken from any one of us. How many people get the opportunity to be a professional athlete, have an entire arena screaming at you for moment in time? I mean, we're gods in there for 15 minutes," Stann said. "That's gonna pass us by. I savor the opportunity and I'm just very lucky to be fighting a champion like Jorge [Santiago] on Memorial Day."

Before each fight, Stann's military background (Naval Academy grad and a Marine, who served in Iraq and was awarded the Silver Star in 2006) makes for a tremendous story, or does it?

At the presser today, a media member asked if Stann was tired of talking about his heroic history in the military. Most people might have popped off, but not Stann. He took it in stride.

"It's never easy to talk about because it always feels like I'm bragging about my military history and that's not my intention. I'm sure some of the hardcore fans get sick of hearing about it but I'm not the one asking the questions. I think this being Memorial Day that was obvious this was going to happen. I'm sorry if people are getting sick of hearing about it," said Stann.

Sorry? For what? There's no need for Stann to apologize. There's new viewers and fans, at and around each UFC event. Why not keep telling the story? The work he's doing as the executive director of Hire Heroes is pretty incredible.

When it came time to talk about the fight against Santiago, he paid the Brazilian nothing but respect. In doing so, he actually took a mild shot at his original opponent Wanderlei Silva.

"When you get to legend status like Wanderlei Silva, some fights pique your interest and some fights don't," Stann said. "In all honesty, let's face it, I got a tougher opponent, who's better for my career."

Many fans may argue that point. Silva is still a huge name and win by Stann would've moved him towards a fight with a top five opponent at middleweight. Stann pointed out that Santiago is a champion, who's 11-1 over the last four years. Stann has won two straight and 4-of-5. That loss came at 205 against fast-rising prospect Phil Davis.

We've seen a lot of how-not-to videos over the years. How not to load your Porsche Carrera, tow your Chevrolet Corvette, rescue your truck from a frozen lake, and many more. It's also become clear that tow trucks frequently play a big part in these matters. Today's example is no different.

Hit the jump to see what happens when a tow truck attempts to return a tipped auto transporter to the upright position. Hint: It probably wouldn't have been posted to YouTube if it ended well.

Jessica Alba's Memorial Day Brentwood Family Fun

Spending the holiday weekend with the family, Jessica Alba was spotted out and about in Brentwood, California with husband Cash Warren and daughter Honor Marie on Sunday (May 29).

The casually-clad trio looked relaxed as they strolled along the sidewalk, with Jessica and Cash wearing sunglasses while Honor sported a big smile on her precious face.

The Memorial Day weekend outing comes as the 30-year-old expectant mother recently revealed that she likes to stay active throughout her pregnancy, telling, "I'd like to still do something five days a week, from a half hour to an hour - nothing excessive, just some moving (around). It makes the whole pregnancy so much easier. The more fit you are, the easier the birth is, and a healthier baby you're going to have."

Alba said that she gets her pre-baby workout regimen from someone very close to her, explaining, "My grandmother was amazing. She would go home and would put on the clothes that she wore before she got pregnant with all five of her kids. It's definitely good genetics, but she also worked through all of her pregnancies. Just being on your feet and moving probably helped."

UFC 130 Morning After: Rampage vs. Hamill, a Dud of a Main Event

Filed under:

Rampage JacksonA few months ago, when UFC 130 was first scheduled, it looked like a hell of a fight card: Frankie Edgar would take on Gray Maynard in the rematch of their epic lightweight title fight, and Rampage Jackson would take on Thiago Silva in what promised to be a thrilling, hard-hitting co-main event.

What we actually got at UFC 130 was a lot different: Edgar and Maynard both dropped out of the event with injuries, Silva got busted for cheating on a drug test, and we were left with Rampage vs. Matt Hamill as a main event.

What else can be said but that the main event turned into a dud?

Rampage vs. Hamill looked like a bad fight on paper, and it turned out to be a bad fight in the Octagon: Hamill is a swell guy whom UFC fans will always like and respect, but he's just not in the same class as Rampage. It was a one-sided beatdown from start to finish, and a disappointing main event. The first Edgar vs. Maynard fight was the UFC's best main event so far this year. Rampage vs. Hamill was the worst.

And as bad as losing the Edgar-Maynard fight was, losing Silva from what had been scheduled as a co-main event fight with Rampage was big, too. A Silva-Rampage fight would have been guaranteed fireworks. It's not just that Hamill isn't as good as Silva, it's also that he has a very different fighting style than Silva, and a Rampage-Hamill fight is just not as compelling as Rampage-Silva would have been.

And, of course, when you lose a main event, all the other fights have to move up a spot on the card. So when Rampage-Silva as the co-main turned into Rampage-Hamill as the main event, that bumped Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson into the co-main event spot. So while Edgar-Maynard and Rampage-Silva would have been awesome main and co-main events, what fans got instead were lousy main and co-main events, Rampage-Hamill and Mir-Nelson.

The first three fights on the pay-per-view card were all entertaining, so it's not like the fans who bought the pay-per-view didn't get any value for their money. But they didn't get the value they were hoping for. This was a fight card that once looked great, and instead turned into a disappointment.

Notes from UFC 130
-- According to CompuStrike, Tim Boetsch was successful on nine of 11 takedown attempts against Kendall Grove. Boetsch has always had good striking power, and if he's able to be that effective with takendowns now that he has moved down from light heavyweight to middleweight, he's going to be a force at 185 pounds.

-- Stefan Struve is 5-3 in his UFC career, and at just 23 years old, he has a lot of promise. But I have to say, I'm worried about his future if he doesn't get better at striking defense. All three of his UFC losses have been by first-round knockout: To Junior Dos Santos, to Roy Nelson and now, on Saturday, to Travis Browne.

-- The UFC has started showing fighters' Twitter handles under their names on its on-screen graphics. At a time when other major sports leagues are terrified that athletes will use social media to say something embarrassing, this was yet another indication that the UFC is way ahead of the pack on that front.

Quotes from UFC 130
"You just moved up the ladder here tonight, kid. It's a big, big victory for you. From here on it's nothing but top contenders." -- Joe Rogan to Rick Story. He's right. Story has a big future ahead of him in the welterweight division.

"How many times did I hit him in the face? What's up with that guy's chin?" -- Frank Mir after battering Roy Nelson for 15 minutes. In Nelson's last two fights he has been in the cage for six rounds with Mir and Junior dos Santos, and although he was beaten badly both times, he certainly does have a great chin, as neither man was able to knock Nelson out.

Good call
"This seems to be the difference between a real, true, legitimate heavyweight and a guy who's fighting at heavyweight because he likes food." -- Rogan on Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson. Rogan was right: Nelson won't be a great fighter until he's willing to take his diet and conditioning seriously, as a professional athlete should.

Bad call
When Jackson and Hamill backed away from each other with about 90 seconds to go in the main event, Mike Goldberg said, "A little respect from both men," as if they were backing away because they like each other. In reality, they were backing away because they were fatigued, and the fans were justified in their booing.

Stock up
Herb Dean showed once again that he's the best referee in the business because he thinks of everything. When the timekeeper gave the 10-second warning at the end of the rounds of the main event, Dean held up 10 fingers to show the deaf Hamill that there were 10 seconds left. Contrast Dean's work with the athletic commission official who interrupted Hamill's corner after the first round of the fight and didn't seem to realize that Hamill is deaf and needed a sign language interpreter.

Stock Down
Thiago Alves is never going to compete at a high level again if he doesn't figure out how to stop a takedown. His loss to Story was the third time in Alves's last four fights that a superior wrestler has been able to control him and win a decision, and as great a striker as Alves is, it's clear that other fighters realize that there's a giant hole in Alves's game.

Final thought
Given the light heavyweight landscape right now and the timing of Jon Jones' return from a hand injury, Rampage Jackson is probably the best choice available to get the next light heavyweight title shot, if Rampage himself is healthy. But as dominant as Jackson was against Hamill, he didn't do anything to indicate he'd have much of a chance of getting the light heavyweight belt back. Rampage can sleepwalk his way through a victory against an opponent like Hamill, but he'd need to fight at a much higher level to have a prayer against Jones.

Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj And Ke$ha 'Till The World Ends' Remix Leaks

Reworked tune features an opening verse by Minaj as Ke$ha sings atop Spears' vocals throughout the song.
By James Dinh

Britney Spears isn't the only pop titan dancing until the world ends: Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha have joined forces to add a new spin on an all-female remix of Femme Fatale's second single, "Till the World Ends."

The reworked dance anthem, which leaked online Friday (April 22), appears to have surfaced earlier than expected as noted by a series of countdowns on all three of the stars' websites.

Mixing the dance tune's original sonic swirls with heavier bass, Britney tourmate Minaj starts off the remix by throwing down an aggressive verse, in which she calls out a female hater: "A-A-A-A-A-AYE!/ Chimpanzees is hatin', but I take it all in stride/ Put her in a jungle with bananas on the side/ Told you they'd revive your career, but somebody lied/ I ain't talkin' poultry when I say this chicken's fried."

After Minaj spits a few introductory bars, Spears delivers the song's first verse before an introduction for the all-star trio. "It's Britney, bitch. I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha!" the Young Money MC proclaims.

Ke$ha, who originally wrote the track for the pop princess, takes part in singing the club-ready track's chorus. Spears soon takes back control of the song as Ke$ha shadows the singer's lines toward the end of the second verse and bridge. Unlike the original version, the "Till the World Ends" remix also features a stuttering dubstep dance break.

News of a star-studded collaboration was hinted earlier this week when producer Dr. Luke tweeted, "@NICKIMINAJ killed it tonight!!!! thanks!!!"

Dana White Says UFC Will Honor Chael Sonnen's Suspension No Matter What

LAS VEGAS - Dana White may not like it, and he's been adamant in his belief Chael Sonnen has been punished enough.

But the UFC boss said Saturday after UFC 130 that as long as the former middleweight title challenger remains under suspension by the California State Athletic Commission, he won't step foot inside the Octagon.

MMA Fighting asked White following the post-fight press conference if he would allow Sonnen to fight in a state that would grant him a license, despite the CSAC suspension, or overseas, where the UFC does its own self-regulation. And White said that won't happen, even though he knows there are states that would grant Sonnen a license and allow him to fight.

"We don't do that," White said of the possibility. "He's going to have to pay his dues and straighten his stuff out with (the CSAC), even though I think what's happened to him is wrong."

Sonnen's difficulties started after he dominated middleweight champion Anderson Silva deep into the fight before tapping to an armbar-triangle at UFC 117 in Oakland, Calif., last August. After the fight, he failed his drug test, then ran into further trouble with the CSAC when his testimony was called into question for its accuracy. And further complicating things for Sonnen, he plead guilty to a money laundering charge stemming from a real estate deal.

That all added up to the CSAC extending his suspension from six months to indefinite. He won't be eligible to apply for a license in California until the end of June. And White thinks the CSAC has given his former top contender a raw deal.

"I think Chael has paid his dues," White said. "Can you keep a guy from making a living for having a big mouth? He's a big mouth. He says dumb (crap). He says stuff that doesn't make sense sometimes. He lives on his own little planet. I can tell you this: You go throughout the history of boxing and look at some of the guys that have been licensed in boxing and what they've done."

White was reminded that Strikeforce heavyweight Josh Barnett doesn't have a license in California and has long had difficulties in that state following a failed drug test in August 2009. Yet Barnett will fight in Strikeforce's heavyweight tournament in Texas in less than three weeks, a state that granted him a license despite his current ban in California. And since Zuffa owns Strikeforce now, along with the UFC, couldn't the same thing, theoretically, be done for Sonnen? Sure, White said. But it won't happen.

"We will honor it. We won't let him fight anywhere," White said. "We'll honor that suspension until it's cleared up. (The CSAC would) regulate me - they're my boss too. You show me a guy who fought the government and won. Show me that guy. I want to meet him. I don't want to be the guy to try. I do what I'm told."

Janet Jackson Thrills Fans With Greatest Hits, Michael Tribute At Radio City

Singer covered songs ranging from classic 'Pleasure Principle' to 2008's 'Feedback' at New York show.
By Vaughn Schoonmaker

NEW YORK — Often imitated, never duplicated, Janet Jackson's outbursts of meticulous choreography, sassy exclamations and smoldering gazes into the audience kept them on their feet for the entire two-hour set of her greatest hits at Radio City Music Hall. Monday night marked the last of three sold-out shows at the historic venue on her monumental Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour.

Up-and-coming boy band Mindless Behavior opened the show with songs including "#1 Girl," "Future" and their debut single, "My Girl." With their Usher-esque dance moves and shouts like "Where the ladies at?" the boys brought the tween girls out of hiding, judging by the shrill screams escaping various corner of the music hall.

At 9:00 sharp, the lights went down and Janet's fans were on the edge of their seats, watching music videos for "The Best Things in Life Are Free" and "Rhythm Nation" projected on big screens across the venue. A small shadow drifted toward center stage, and when the colorful lights came up, Jackson, wrapped in a shoulder-padded catsuit, complete with slick short hair, blasted into "The Pleasure Principle," dancing as hard and intensely choreographed as she did when the song first came out in the 1980s.

With barely a spare second between songs, Janet dazzled her way through her biggest hits, including "Miss You Much," "All for You" and "Nasty," and more recent hits like 2008's "Feedback."

Videos displayed during Jackson's costume changes included vintage clips from "Diff'rent Strokes," a funny scene from "Poetic Justice" where Jackson slyly rejects the advances of Tupac Shakur's character, and a rather heavy scene, as Jackson's character in "Why Did I Get Married" destroys her husband's house with a golf club, screaming hysterically.

Considering the tough couple of years the Jackson family has faced, the dark moments in the video seemed fitting, and everyone was beside themselves with bittersweet joy when Michael Jackson's face popped up on the big screen and she performed their hit single "Scream."

Janet emerged for her encore in a tight white one-piece disco suit, and performed "Diamonds," "Make Me" and "Together Again," which appeared to be the biggest hit of the evening. As Jackson graciously bowed out, her straight face transitioned into a smirk, suggesting that despite the hard times she has experienced recently, we can expect to see this singing and dancing pop legend shine far into the future.

"Its amazing!" Janet fan Elena Mercantini gleamed afterward. "It's like she's still 20 years old!"

"She's hot, she's amazing and she's still got it after all these years" added Alison Klinger of Long Island. "Best concert I've ever been to!"

Now Kimbo Slice wants to box an NFL player?

Kimbo Slice's rise from underground street fighter to network TV star was simply amazing. His fall hasn't possessed the charm, but it seems to have happened just as quickly.

After losing in the first round of the UFC's "Ultimate Fighter" and going 1-1 with the promotion, the man has simply fallen off the face of the earth.

Now we're confused about what he wants to do. Does he ever want to fight again? He's been mum on the topic. His original MMA promoters, The Shaws, continue to push for him to get back in the ring, but we wonder if the latest effort is only making Kimbo look foolish.

Jared Shaw is proposing a ridiculous boxing debut for the former streetfighting king. Shawtold MMAWeekly Radio:

"I'll tell you right now on the air, I've called Mike Riley to get in touch with Ray Edwards' people and I've made an open challenge to come fight Kimbo Slice. That fight I will deliver.

"If Ray Edwards wants to step up and fight Kimbo Slice I will deliver that to the public. There's two guys that come from athletic backgrounds, that haven't been in the ring that many times, so let's see two big boys bang it out. If Ray Edwards thinks he's a great boxer, then maybe he thinks he can go through Kevin Ferguson very quickly."

Edwards is a defensive end with the Minnesota Vikings. Much like Baltimore Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski, Edwards decided to make a little money during the NFL lockout by stepping into the squared circle. He hasn't made his boxing debut yet, but Shaw is calling him out, saying:

"Some people will call it a circus, but you can call it whatever you want. It's two guys who are willing to get in the ring and bang it out. I don't really call that a circus."

The 6-foot-5, 268-pound Edwards is slated to fight this Friday against a former kickboxer named T.J. Gibson.
